As I’ve started picking a modern cast for various Tales From The Crypt episodes, I’ve obviously been going through all the episodes, and as I was watching them, I started thinking about all of the moments that made me fall in love with the show. I almost did my favorite endings in the show, but I felt it was too limiting (even though most of my choices are endings). I hope you enjoy and let me know which moments were your favorites! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)
When Ulric Realized He Didn’t Have Nine Lives – Dig That Cat… He’s Real Gone

Ulric (Joe Pantoliano) was a homeless man who was approached by a mad doctor, Emil Manfred (Gustav Vintas), who paid him to participate in an experiment where he could gain a cat’s nine lives. After the experiment proved successful, Ulric became Ulric The Undying, the main attraction at a local carnival. He died and was resurrected in front of an audience many times, earning a ton of money with each show. For his final death before he quit the carnival a rich man, he was buried alive where he had time to reflect on all the preceding events… and where he realized he didn’t have nine lives. See, when Dr. Manfred took the cat’s gland that gave Ulric the nine lives, it ended up killing the cat. So, Ulric actually had eight lives total, and he found out when it was much too late to get out of the coffin. It was a horrifying realization that was executed so well. It is undoubtedly one of my favorite twists in the show!
When Bobbi Avenged Isaac – Forever Ambergris

Dalton Scott (Roger Daltrey) was a combat photographer with a dying career. After a young, more talented up-and-comer, Isaac (Steve Buscemi) invited Dalton to his house, Dalton met Isaac’s beautiful girlfriend, Bobbi (Lysette Anthony), and realized just how much he wanted Isaac’s life. He sent Isaac to a village completely wiped out by a flesh-eating virus so he could pass off his pictures as his own and steal Bobbi. However, Bobbi had her own plans. She made Dalton believe she was into him and while they were in bed together, she contaminated him and herself with the same virus that killed her Isaac. Honestly, Bobbi is one of my favorite characters in the entire show. She and her devotion to Isaac were vastly underestimated and it was amazing to see what she was capable of for her love. She was always honest about what she would to if anything happened to Isaac and when she realized that Dalton was responsible for his death, she put him and herself through a slow and painful death just for revenge.
When Mary Jo Was Set Free – Four-Sided Triangle

Mary Jo (Patricia Arquette) was a young thief who believed she found sanctuary at the farm of George (Chelcie Ross) and Luisa Yates (Susan Blommaert). Instead, what she found there was a prison where she was forced to work. Having to deal with Luisa’s abuse and George’s sexual harassment, poor Mary Jo didn’t believe she was ever going to escape… until she came up with the perfect plan. After George’s latest attack, Mary Jo made the couple believe that she was in love with their scarecrow and that it loved her back. After a few nights of seeing Mary Jo try to “seduce” the scarecrow, George thought he’d finally get to be with her if he donned the scarecrow’s outfit and mask. Obviously aware of George’s obsession with Mary Jo, Luisa tried to hunt him down and when Mary Jo tried to claim the scarecrow was alive, Luisa stabbed “it” repeatedly with a pitchfork. Mary Jo’s plan was so brilliant, she got Luisa to stab her own husband and then she killed Luisa when her back was turned. Because of her captives’ naivety, she was able to set herself free while barely lifting a finger.
When The Wives Fought To The Death – The Pit

Aaron Scott (Stoney Jackson) and Felix Johnson (Mark Dacascos) were expert martial arts fighters who were both in horrible marriages. Their wives, Aubrey (Debbe Dunning) and Andrea (Marjean Holden) were former fighters who became their husbands’ agents. When Aaron and Felix were both up for the lead role in the next action blockbuster, promoter Wink Barnum (Wayne Newton) arranged for a fight to the death where the winner got the role. Aubrey and Andrea accepted the fight without their husbands’ consent. Little did they know that the fight to the death was always intended for them, not Aaron and Felix. Let’s face it, these women were unbearable from the start. They were abusive, unfaithful, and unbelievably selfish. They were willing to let their husbands fight to the death because they only cared about money, fame, and their petty rivalry. We spent the whole episode believing that these poor guys will be forced to fight each other. I couldn’t tell you how fast my smile stretched across my face when I realized the fight was always intended for the wives.
