The Horror Movie Tag – 2023 Update

It is now Day 5 of Spooky Season! When I started my Spooky Season posting back in 2019, one of the posts was a fun Horror Movie Tag! It’s been 4 years since I posted it and I was curious to see if my answers would be the same if I did the tag again! I hope you enjoy and feel free to answer some of these questions, I’d love to read them!

What is the first horror movie you remember watching?

2019 Answer: The first horror film I remember watching was Bride of Chucky. My cousins let me watch it when I was around four years old. That movie sparked a huge fear of dolls that I didn’t overcome for years. Once I grew out of it, I watched Bride of Chucky at least 30 more times over the years.

2023 Answer: I don’t know why, but I always went with Bride Of Chucky as my answer because that was the movie that I was told was my first horror movie, but I don’t remember watching it all that time ago. The first horror movie I REMEMBER watching is either The Monster Squad or Silver Bullet.

What Is Your Favorite Horror Movie?

2019 Answer: For a long time, Scream was always my go-to answer for this question. After seeing IT: Chapter 2, I decided to change my answer. Since it’s one continuous story, I’m combining both chapters for my number 1 spot on my top 10 horror list. So, IT is my favorite horror movie!

2023 Answer: IT is still one of my absolute favorites but Scream has reigned supreme once again as my all-time favorite horror movie!

What Is Your Favorite Horror Movie Sub-Genre?

2019 Answer: Undoubtedly, the slasher genre is my favorite! It’s the sub-genre with practical effects at its finest. Plus, back in the day, there was that mystery element that I absolutely loved. It’s always exciting trying to find out who the killer is in film. Though I mostly love being surprised, guessing the killer correctly is just as fun.

2023 Answer: The slasher sub-genre is still my favorite! There have been plenty of new additions that prove slashers aren’t dying any time soon!

What Sub-Genre Scares You The Most?

2019 Answer: I’d have to say demonic and ghost/possession films scare me the most. If I watch a demonic film, it will stay with me for days, maybe even weeks. Sometimes it’s the atmosphere, other times, it’s the look of the demon or ghost. Sometimes I’ll sit in the dark, remember a specific scene that frightens me, and scare myself from turning my back to the room. it’s pretty funny.

2023 Answer: It’s definitely still paranormal/possession films. For a while, I thought I was getting to the point where I wasn’t getting scared by horror film anymore. That was definitely not the case. I still scare very easily, I’ve just been making my movie watching experiences safer haha. But yes, paranormal movies still scare me the most.

What Is The Last Horror Movie You Watched That Actually Scared You?

2019 Answer: The last horror film to actually scare me was probably The Nun. The creators of that film knew how to create a terrifying atmosphere, especially for a movie theater viewing. Even thinking about that beginning scene still creeps me out.

2023 Answer: It was definitely Evil Dead Rise. It didn’t scare me when I saw it in the theaters, but that was because it was daytime and that fear washed away as soon as we left the theater. Once I threw it on in my living room after the sun went down, I almost turned it off and I ended up getting 2 Evil Dead Rise related nightmares that night.

Who Is Your Ultimate Scream Queen?

2019 Answer: Danielle Harris will always be my favorite scream queen. She’s been a big part of the horror genre ever since she was little. She’s a hell of an actress and I hope she continues to be a part of the horror community.

2023 Answer: My answer is actually a tie between Katharine Isabelle and Danielle Harris. Both have a place in my heart and they are always the first ones who come to mind when I hear the term Scream Queen!

Who’s Your Favorite On-Screen Kill?

2019 Answer: The first on-screen kill that comes to mind is from Hatchet (2005). Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) grabs a woman’s head, grabs the top and bottom of her mouth, and splits her head in half. It’s very graphic and brutal. It’s also very well crafted with practical effects!

2023 Answer: I want to purposefully give a different answer because there are so many good ones. I have to go with Pete Peters (John Waters) in Seed Of Chucky. It was very sad when the doll who tried to save him ended up causing such a horrible death as acid was spilled on his head. Even though it was an accident, it was very unique and memorable kill!

What’s Your Favorite Horror Franchise?

2019 Answer: Whenever I answer this, I only choose franchises where I love every installment. On this basis, the Scream franchise is my only favorite franchise (tv series not included). The Saw franchise was also one of my favorites, but then Jigsaw (2017) was released and it really disappointed me.

2023: I’m still going with my rule of considering the franchise where I love every installment my favorite franchise. Unfortunately, I didn’t love 2022’s Scream so I can’t really say Scream is my favorite horror franchise anymore. The crown is now passed onto the Hatchet franchise as I love every installment!

Who Is Your Favorite Horror Director?

2019 Answer: Now, that’s a very difficult thing to answer. It’s very hard to choose just one, so I’m just going to list a few of my favorites: Wes Craven, James Wan, Rob Zombie, Mike Flanagan, Andy Muschietti, John Carpenter, Jordan Peele, and Eli Roth.

2023 Answer: My list of favorite horror directors remains the same.
