My Favorite Horror Short Films – Part 1

Welcome to Day 29 of Spooky Season!! It’s sad that October is almost over, but I have more recommendations for you! Today, I’m sharing part 1 of my favorite horror short films. Through their animation, story, and impact, these shorts will forever have a place in my heart. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite horror short films!

Missing Halloween

Directed By: Mike Inel

Missing Halloween follows a little boy who reunites with his Trick-or-Treat friend after not seeing her for a year. Whenever I think about my favorite short films, this is the film that’s always the first to pop into my head. Although it’s only 10 minutes long, it truly hit every nail on the head: beautiful animation, a compelling story, calming music, and an ending you won’t forget! It’s an absolute must-watch for horror fans!

Behind Closed Doors

Directed By: Jonny Button

Behind Closed Doors follows a child who struggles to deal with the 2 monsters in his life. For starters, the animation is absolutely stunning and it really adds to the film’s creep factor! It’s a very intense and sad tale and it’s perfectly capable of getting you hooked almost immediately. It sends a chill down my spine every time I watch it and it contains such a wonderful payoff!

There’s A Man In The Woods

Directed By: Jacob Streilein

There’s A Man In The Woods is narrated by a former teacher describing how one of his students ruined his life with just a rumor. This was a very chilling tale that flawlessly showed how quickly a little lie can escalate to the point of pure tragedy. I also have to give props to the wonderful writing, it was like a devastating poem. This film is bound to make your jaw drop as it did mine.

Just Delicious

Directed By: Brian Bear

Based on the short story with the same title, Just Delicious follows an abused housewife who, out of desperation, feeds her husband a special kind of meat. The animation was so well done in this film, that you could easily understand what’s happening with almost no dialogue. It’s a messed up tale through and through, and it will keep you hooked every second!

Chainsaw Maid

Directed By: Takena

Chainsaw Maid follows a maid who protects her employers during a zombie outbreak. This is an overall fun and gripping story. The claymation and music really add to the film’s creep factor. We’re given an epic heroine and plenty of ugly, brutal antagonists. It’s great if you’re looking for a laugh and moments that make you shout with glee!
