I’m back with a new series today! Recently, I started thinking about the best Christmas scenes in movies that are not centered around the holiday. These scenes still brought the Christmas spirit and left an impact on me for years. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite Christmas scenes! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)
Extravagant Christmas – Goodfellas

After pulling off one of the biggest heists in history, one of the culprits, Jimmy (Robert De Niro) urges the rest to lay low for a while and avoid extravagant spending. As Christmas rolls around, everyone ignores his rules. One person buys a brand new car, another buys his wife a giant fur coat. Jimmy undoubtedly doesn’t let that slide, but that’s later. Jimmy then gives his friend, Henry (Ray Liotta) a piece of his cut hoping that he’ll be a little more discreet. Nope! Almost immediately, Henry bursts through his front door with a giant, beautiful, white Christmas tree. The whole scene was very comical.
Caroling At The Wrong House – The Addams Family

At the very start of the movie, a group of Christmas carolers visit the Addams family, bringing joy and merriment. Little do they know is that the family is not inside their house, loving the music, but on the roof with a big pot of oil. This scene was very messed up when you think about it, but it was still a fantastic misdirection for the film! We start off with such a cheery Christmas scene, and end with what the movie is really about.
(Re)Creating A Memory – Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star

After missing out on a normal childhood, Dickie Roberts (David Spade) hires a family to help him re-do his childhood. One memory he wanted to create was coming down the stairs on Christmas morning and seeing a brand new bike under the Christmas tree. Now, this wasn’t exactly on Christmas, but the family decorated and set everything up to give him this memory. Then they gave him a real gift, one of the few great things from his actual childhood, Candyland. It was a very sweet and touching moment.
Jingle Bell Shock – Mean Girls

All the Christmas performances in this film were great, but the main performance is the one I’m talking about today. If the dancing troupe’s outfits weren’t enough to shock the audience, the risqué dancing definitely did the trick. Also, due to a last minute placement switch, one of the dancers, Gretchen (Lacey Chabert) got all turned around and accidentally kicked the radio, messing up the music. In an effort to fix it, she kicks it again and it flies into her on-again off-again boyfriend’s face. The performance was almost ruined, but everyone starts singing the song and saving the show. The whole scene was very iconic!
Last Christmas – The Stepfather (2009)

The film starts off with the main villain, David (Dylan Walsh) seemingly just getting ready for the day. He then heads downstairs in his home and listens to some Christmas music as he makes breakfast. The festive setting suddenly turns very dark as we start to see the bodies of the family he butchered the night before. It showed a very messed up and truly unforgettable side of Christmas that’s seared into my brain forever.
