My Ranking Of The Death Scenes In Black Christmas (2006)

I’m back with another death ranking! Since it’s almost Christmas, I decided to rank the death scenes in 2006’s Black Christmas! This movie has some of the most impressive death scenes I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched Black Christmas so many times, but it wasn’t until I worked on this post that I realized how many characters actually die in this film. I made my ranking choices based on originality, gore factor, special effects, shock factor, and overall memorability. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite death scenes! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)

17. Leigh Colvin

Leigh’s (Kristen Cloke) sister, Clair wanted to have the perfect Christmas where they reconnect and bond all over again. This never happened as Clair was murdered before Leigh even made it to the sorority house. When she got there, she searched all over, and she ended up being added to Billy and Agnes’s kill list. She and her new friend Kelli (Katie Cassidy) made it out of the house and presumably killed the maniacal duo. However, as Kelli was getting X-Rayed, Agnes found Leigh and lured her into a trap. It was a little hard to take this scene seriously, because Agnes looked right into the camera and whispered “forever” before snapping Leigh’s neck. It was almost too much for me. Plus, we don’t get a lot of time to register what happened before it cuts to the next scene in the exact same room.

16. Lauren Hannon

Lauren (Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe) was having a really tough time enjoying the holidays. She pounded shot for shot and had to be put to bed before all the carnage happened. This overall scene is very uncomfortable. We’re subjected to watching a good minute of Lauren getting inappropriately touched by Billy before she died. Then, she tried to stab her attacker, she saw no one and had a second to believe she just imagined it all. I don’t know why she would think she imagined something like that. Then she gets choked out and stabbed by Agnes. It was uncomfortable to watch and the kill itself was unoriginal compared to the others on this list.

15. Kyle Autry

Kyle (Oliver Hudson) was a straight scumbag who videotaped himself having sex with women without their consent. When someone posted his tapes online, he snuck into the sorority house to either talk to one of the victims, Megan or try to erase the footage so his girlfriend Kelli wouldn’t find out. After secrets revealed, hearts broken, and bodies piled, Kyle returned to help them find Leigh’s missing sister, Clair in the attic. The search was short as Agnes grabbed Kyle and dragged him into the attic. He tried crawling away, but Agnes stopped him and stabbed him right in the face. Honestly, this one’s far down the list because the overall way it was shot confused me. One second, Kyle’s head was in between Agnes’s legs, then it cuts to her stabbing his face from steps away. I understand it’s a very nitpicky reason, but it always stuck with me.

14. Heather Fitzgerald

Heather (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) was the spoiled, stuck up, rich girl whose peaceful Christmas was ruined by Billy and Agnes. In a desperate attempt to escape, she hitched with Ms. Mac to go to the nearest police station. However, Billy was one step ahead of them and snuck into the car before they started it. While Ms. Mac was clearing the frost off her windshield, Heather was in the car, waiting. We don’t really see what Billy did to her, but all the blood we see certainly leaves a lot to the imagination. It was good for shock value, but there were other scenes I believe did it better.

13. Eve Agnew

Eve (Kathleen Kole) was the outcast in the sorority house. Early in the evening, she decided to leave to take a drive. As the girls were searching for Dana, Heather noticed Eve’s car was still there and she never left. When she went to check on her, she opened the door and Eve’s head popped right out and fell on the ground. This was a really great reveal. However, the setup was confusing. They asked a lot of questions that were never answered. Where was she going in the middle of a blizzard? Did her obsession cause her to let Agnes in the house and cause all of this? She was set up to be one of the red herrings with such poor attempt.

12. Billy’s Stepfather

There isn’t much we know about Billy’s stepfather (Howard Siegel). All we know is that he was a brutal S.O.B., he was somehow in love with Billy’s mother, and he didn’t last long in bed. After Billy attacked Agnes, the stepfather went to kill him, but Billy had the upper hand. He grabbed the nearest weapon and put it right through his head. It was short, sweet, and to the point. There wasn’t really anything that set this scene apart from the rest, so it’s still pretty low on the list.

11. Santa

Santa (Michael Adamthwaite) was simply visiting the children’s ward at a sanitarium, where famed killer Billy Lenz resided. After Billy’s escape, he needed a new outfit… and Santa was the perfect outfit to escape in. As Santa was flirting with another worker, Billy led him right to him. The scene was pretty decent. The flirting was a little cringey, but not to the point where I had a hard time watching it. I absolutely love the shot of Santa’s blood hitting his boots, it was such an unforgettable image.

10. Dana Mathis

Dana (Lacey Chabert) was another sorority sister who got killed for being in the wrong house at the wrong time. As the power in the house went out, she informed everyone that she knew where the breaker was. That was mistake number one as she was then told to go under the house and fix it. She was then pulled under by her killer, Agnes. She put up a decent fight, but it didn’t stop Agnes from putting a small gardening rake through her head. It was a decent set up, but very predictable.

9. Morgue Attendant

I’m not going to lie, I completely forgot about this guy. As the nightmare in the sorority house was supposedly over, the morgue attendant (Juan Reidinger) had to stay until all of the bodies have been identified. After getting an earful from his wife for missing Christmas, he poured himself some eggnog and went to work… until he heard some ruffling from inside one of the body bags. Thought to be dead, Billy Lenz popped out, grabbed an autopsy saw, and made sure this was the last Christmas this guy had to work. The stare-down between Billy and the attendant was a bit much for me, but I do love the effect of the blood hitting the eggnog.

8. Frank Lenz

Frank Lenz (Peter Wilds) was Billy’s father and the only one who really cared about him. He was trapped in a loveless marriage with his horrible wife for years. When Billy was 5, his mom decided it was time for a new husband. Together, her and her boyfriend bludgeoned Frank to death right in front of Billy. This was a great execution where we’re given an audible death scene that left a lot to the imagination. It was also great foreshadowing where we see how Billy and Agnes get their method of execution.

7. Barbara ‘Ms. Mac’ MacHenry

Ms. Mac (Andrea Martin) was the sorority’s house mother. She told all the girls about the legend of Billy, and insisted on keeping the tradition of getting him a present every Christmas. When Billy returned, Ms. Mac insisted on driving away, even when some of her girls were missing. As she was clearing the snow off of her car windshield, the one person who went with her, Heather was sitting right inside. She witnessed Billy brutally kill Heather and it made her so frightened she backed up into the garage door. The hit knocked an icicle loose and it pierced right through her eye. Not only was it one of the quickest deaths in the film, it was one of the most unexpected and original deaths in the whole film. I also love how it was the only accidental death in the film.

6. Clair Crosby

Clair (Leela Savasta) was the first victim, having a peaceful evening and writing her Christmas card to her sister, Leigh. After writer’s block made her place her pen down, Agnes grabbed it without her knowledge. As she searched for it, Agnes wrapped a trash bag around her head and stabbed her with the pen. I think the buildup in this scene was great. It sent a chill down my spine the first time I watched it. The pacing was a bit fast, but overall, it was a decent first kill!

5. Billy’s Mother

Billy’s mother (Karin Konoval) was a truly despicable woman. She hated her first family so much, she killed her first husband and locked Billy in the attic for years. She then raped him to conceive her second child, Agnes. After Billy attacked Agnes and killed her second husband, all she could do was cry in hysterics, giving Billy the chance to kill her next. He wrapped Christmas lights around her throat choked the miserable life out of her. That wasn’t enough for Billy though. He repeatedly hit her body with a rolling pin and made “Christmas cookies” out of her skin. It’s a truly depraved death caused by a depraved man who was birthed by a depraved woman.

4. Agnes Lenz

Agnes Lenz (Dean Friss) never had a chance at a normal life. She was the inbred baby of her brother Billy, and their mother. When she was a child, she lost her right eye due to Billy plucking it out. Then she had to witness Billy kill her mother and who she thought was her father. It completely messed her up to the point where she started viciously killing the sorority sisters who lived in her former house. She was assumed to be dead after the house lit up in flames, but she was taken to the hospital where Kelli was healing. She tried to kill Kelli but was defeated when Kelli used defibrillators on her and fried her head. It was a very original kill and perfectly executed.

3. Melissa Kitt

Melissa (Michelle Trachtenberg) was a very good friend. She acted like the mother figure when her friend, Lauren was too drunk to properly function. She also refused to leave Lauren when Ms. Mac and Heather wanted to leave her. But she did leave Lauren’s room later and that was her undoing. When Agnes attacked and followed her, Melissa put up a decent fight. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as Agnes took a pair of ice skates and threw them at her head. It was a very gnarly and shocking visual as a piece of Melissa’s skull hit the window and we get a very graphic shot of her brain.

2. Billy Lenz

Billy Lenz (Robert Mann) was the boy who started all the slaughter. Billy grew up in a home where his mother hated him and kept him locked in the attic for years. He left a lot of bodies in his path and when he returned home from the sanitarium, he added a few more bodies to the pile. When the house was on fire, Billy was believed to be dead. However, he escaped the morgue to track down the last survivor, Kelli. He almost succeeded, but Kelli was able to throw him over the rail, where he was pierced by the hospital’s Christmas tree. I love the visual of the aftermath where his shadow is shown surrounded by the Christmas lights. It was a beautifully gory sight and a great death to end the film on!

1. Megan Helms

Poor Megan (Jessica Harmon) was already having a pretty horrible Christmas as she found a sex tape she was unknowingly in posted on the internet. Her evening was interrupted by a music box in the attic, and she went to investigate. It wasn’t enough that she got stabbed repeatedly, and the killer then held her down and pulled her eye out. This was one of the most shocking horror deaths I’d ever seen. It’s my top choice for having the biggest impact on me, and it gets major props for scarring me for years!

I decided to label the sanitarium’s security guard (Ron Selmour) as an honorable mention because although he was stabbed, he was still alive the last time we saw him, so his fate is ultimately unknown.
