My Top 5 Favorite Richard Jenkins Roles

I’m back with another top 5 list!! Richard Jenkins is a truly underrated actor who I almost never see get the recognition he deserves. So, today I am dedicating an article specifically to honor the roles and performances that added Jenkins to my list of favorite actors! I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite Richard Jenkins role!! (POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!!)

5. Agent Boshane – Me, Myself, and Irene

After Charlie Baileygates (Jim Carrey) was framed for kidnapping a wanted woman, they started to get pursued by the crooked cops that framed them, one of which being Agent Boshane. Boshane was one of those characters whose manipulation really surprised me. I spent the whole movie believing he was one of good cops who was unfortunately unaware the cop he was working with was corrupt. It was so great seeing him go from a seemingly innocent officer of the law to a serious and dangerous man with a gun.

4. Dr. Robert Doback – Step Brothers

Robert Doback was a widower who had to deal with the fact that his son never grew up and got his own life. When Robert found love again, she unfortunately had her own son who never grew up and the four of them attempted to make it all work under one roof. This was the first role I’ve ever seen Jenkins play. He was stubborn, crabby, and I loved every scene he was in! We saw him at his best and angriest. I really can’t picture anyone else for this role, it’s like he was born to play him.

3. Sitterson – The Cabin In The Woods

In order to appease The Ancient Ones and prevent them from destroying the world, groups of young souls must be sacrificed to them in certain ritualistic ways. In America, Sitterson and his partner Hadley (Bradley Whitford) oversaw that everything went according to plan and the youths were killed in a specific way and order. Jenkins and Whitford definitely stole the show. Even understanding the risks if they screwed up, they still treated it like any regular job. They made jokes and took bets and I know this article is all about Richard Jenkins, but I felt I had to give them both props here because they worked so well together!

2. The Father – Let Me In

The man simply known as The Father was a guardian for a vampire named Abby (Chloë Grace Moretz). As they moved to a new place, obtaining food for Abby became more and more difficult for The Father as he realized he just couldn’t do it anymore. This was the first time I saw Richard Jenkins play a serious role. Usually when someone goes from comedy to horror, they still have that comedic element and it’s difficult to take them seriously. I’m very happy that this wasn’t the case. Jenkins perfectly embodied someone who had to help his vampire friend for decades and just became so tired and done after all that time.

1. Frank Bascombe – Fun With Dick and Jane

Jack McCallister (Alec Baldwin) was an evil man who screwed over his employees and stole millions from his company and Frank was the guy paid off to take the fall. He started out as a sophisticated and serious businessman, but guilt weighed down on him and he drowned his sorrows in a bunch of booze. Jenkins was absolutely hilarious in this film! He gave us 2 completely different personalities that clashed so well. With his quick comebacks and epic line deliveries, this character definitely earned his place at the top of my list!
