Best ‘I’m Dead And I Know It’ Moments In Horror – Part 3

I’m back with part 3 of the best “I’m dead and I know it” moments in the horror genre! Whether it’s a sacrifice, suicide, or an overall acceptance of one’s own fate, these scenes brought the emotion and impact that affected me for a long time. I hope you enjoy and let me know some of your favorite moments! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)

Father Malone Repents – The Fog

As the town of Antonio Bay prepared to celebrate its centennial, a mysterious fog began to engulf the town and kill its residents. Spending all his time in the town church, Father Malone (Hal Holbrook) discovered a journal there written by his ancestor detailing a terrible crime that was committed a hundred years ago. Turns out his ancestor and 5 other men tricked a leper colony to crash their ship and stole the gold they had on board. The six men who were murdered returned from the grave to kill six people. Believing he was supposed to die to pay for his ancestor’s sins, Father Malone gave them the gold back and told them to make him the 6th victim. It seemed once they got the gold, they left everyone alone to Malone’s confusion. Of course, they did come back for their final victim, and Father Malone wasn’t spared after all.

Seth’s Surrender – The Fly

Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) was on the fast track to success as he invented fully-functioning teleportation pods. He seemed to have it all: a successful invention that would’ve been the high point of his career and the love of his life, Ronnie (Geena Davis) by his side. However, when he believed Ronnie was getting back together with her ex, Seth made the decision that destroyed his life. He got drunk and decided to go through the pods alone. Unbeknownst to him, a little fly snuck into the pod with him and the machine morphed them together. As he started to lose his mind as well as his body, Seth believed the way to go back would be to morph his body with Ronnie’s. Luckily for her, she was able to escape at the last second. However, when Seth tried to step out, he ended up morphing with a large piece of the pod. Knowing it was the end for him, he grabbed the gun Ronnie was pointing at him and placed it on his head. She didn’t want to pull the trigger, but she knew she had to. She put him out of his misery once and for all.

Kimberly’s Crash – Final Destination 2

Kimberly Corman’s (A.J. Cook) road trip with her best friends was cut short after she had a premonition that everyone on the highway was going to die. She was able to save herself and a few others, but death soon showed them that It wasn’t done with them. Desperate to save everyone from Death’s design once and for all, Kimberly tried to figure out what her other visions meant. After reading a newspaper headline about new life, she realized she could stop the design by dying and being brought back to life. She stole an ambulance, drove it right into the lake, and let the water rise around her. Although her death was only temporary, I still feel the scene has earned its place in this series as one of the best!

Carter’s Plea – 30 Days Of Night

Carter Davies (Nathanial Lees) tragically lost his family in a car accident. Since then, he’s been going through life day by day, waiting for the moment he would reunite with them. After a group of vicious vampires attacked him and the rest of the town of Barrow, Alaska, he joined a small batch of survivors determined to make it to the end of the month when the sun would rise again. While on a supply run, the gang ran into a little vampire girl who ended up attacking and turning Carter. Dreading the thought of being immortal and never seeing his family again, Carter pleaded with the group’s leader, Eben (Josh Hartnett) to kill him. Eben took him away from the rest of the survivors and gave him what he wanted. It was such a heartbreaking moment, but Carter finally got the peace he wanted.

Tommy’s Torture – The Autopsy Of Jane Doe

Tommy (Brian Cox) and his son Austin (Emile Hirsch) were coroners getting ready to end a long night. At the last minute, a mysterious corpse was brought to their door, and it was up to them to find out how she died. As the night and the autopsy, they figured out that she was not only a powerful witch who was brutally tortured, she wasn’t dead at all. Poor Tommy and Austin were mentally tormented and physically ambushed all through the night. Once Tommy figured out Jane Doe (Olwen Catherine Kelly) was still alive, he put the pieces together that she wanted everyone to feel the pain she was forced to endure. Tommy believed that she would finally be at peace if he was put through what she went through. Jane Doe accepted and Tommy was broken, burned, and stabbed. He suffered greatly and although Jane Doe’s wrath didn’t end there, it was a truly a courageous sacrifice.
