My Favorite Horror Movie Moms – Part 1

Usually when horror fans talk about the mothers of horror, we generally discuss the more villainous moms like Pamela Voorhees, Norma Bates, or Margaret White. But what about the mothers of horror that are actually the protagonists of the story? Today, I’m sharing part 1 of my favorite horror movie moms! I hope you enjoy and let me know which horror movie moms should be in this series! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Lynn Peltzer – Gremlins

After her husband brought home a Mogwai as a pet for their son, Lynn (Frances Lee McCain) found herself fighting for her life against some of the creature’s transformed evil Gremlin offspring. Instead of running out of the house when the Gremlins were tearing through her kitchen, she stayed and proceeded to kill almost all of them with any kitchen supply she could get her hands on, including a kitchen knife, bug spray, and a microwave! Even though she almost lost against one of the last Gremlins, she more than proved herself to be one of the toughest mothers in the entire genre!

Donna Trenton – Cujo

After Cujo, a lovable St. Bernard, turned rabid after a bat bite, Donna (Dee Wallace) and her son, Tad (Danny Pintauro), ended up trapped in their broken down car with the dog desperately trying to attack them. Staying in the hot car for days with barely any water started to jeopardize Tad’s life. In order to save her son, Donna risked her life, faced off against the rabid beast and was able to save Tad before it was too late. Donna may have been far from the perfect wife, but she certainly proved her son’s life was more important to her than her own.

Heather Langenkamp – New Nightmare

Actress Heather Langenkamp was famous for her role as Nancy Thompson in the Nightmare on Elm Street series. When she learned that Wes Craven was writing another Elm Street script, she began to realize her on-screen foe, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), was coming into the real world to hurt the ones she loved. When Freddy started to target her young son, Dylan (Miko Hughes), Heather realized that in order to save her son and make the nightmares stop, she’d have to play Nancy just one more time. She faced the demon that plagued her for years and finally brought peace for herself and her family.

Laurie Strode – Halloween H20: 20 Years Later

Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) has come a long way since her last encounter with her murderous brother, Michael Myers (Chris Durand). To protect herself and her family, she assumed a new identity and raised her son, John (Josh Hartnett), in quiet solitude for 20 years. When Michael returned to kill Laurie and John, she was forced to not only come clean about her past but end Michael’s killing spree before John became his next victim. Now, she certainly had issues with being over protective, but she had good reason to be in this case.

Rose Da Silva – Silent Hill

Wanting to get to the bottom of her daughter, Sharon’s (Jodelle Ferland) sleepwalking, Rose (Radha Mitchell) took her to the place that Sharon mentioned in her dreams, a town called Silent Hill. Once they arrived in the apocalyptic town, Rose and Sharon were immediately trapped and separated. Rose stopped at nothing to find the clues and escape certain death so she could track down her daughter and find out the secrets of Silent Hill. She even went as far as to work with the demons of Silent Hill just to save her daughter and get revenge on the people that caused the apocalypse on the town!
