My Favorite Ride-Along TV Episodes – Ranked

Lately, I’ve noticed a trope in some of my favorite tv shows involving ride-alongs and it made me think of my favorite ones and I decided to rank them. Some of my favorite shows star police officers, so it’s no surprise that they would have ride-along episodes, but it is still a fun trope for these sitcoms. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite ride-along episodes! (POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!)

3. The Ride-Along – Everybody Loves Raymond

After his job as a police officer was mocked one too many times, Robert (Brad Garrett) asked his brother Raymond (Ray Romano) to come on a ride-along to see how serious being a cop really was. This was one of my favorite brother moments in the entire show. For too long, Raymond mocked Robert’s life and when he went on this ride-along and witnessed Robert stop a robbery, he finally saw new respect for him. I wish this one could be the top choice for me but it has one of the most frustrating moments in the show as well. When Raymond wanted to honor his brother in the paper, but the paper made it all about him instead, I could feel that stress and frustration that the characters felt and I really wish it didn’t end up that way.

2. The One With The Ride Along – Friends

On the night before Ross’s (David Schwimmer) ex-wife got remarried, Ross, Chandler (Matthew Perry), and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) joined Phoebe’s (Lisa Kudrow) boyfriend, Gary (Michael Rapaport) on a ride-along. After a car backfiring was mistaken for gunfire, Joey seemingly leapt to protect Ross, leaving Chandler heartbroken that his best friend didn’t try to save him. Meanwhile, Ross’s ex, Emily (Helen Baxendale) called him after having doubts before her wedding and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) accidentally deleted the voicemail message. Other than Gary being pretty rude a good chunk of the episode and the silly fact that Joey only jumped in front of Ross to save his sandwich, this episode was great. I’m really happy that Ross was finally able to get his closure and move on. It was great to see how everyone reacted in a scary situation and it’s one of my all-time favorite Friends episodes!

1. The First And Last Ride-Along – Mike & Molly

Wanting to pursue her dreams of being a novelist, Molly (Melissa McCarthy) joined her husband Mike (Billy Gardell) and his partner Carl (Reno Wilson) on a ride-along for creative inspiration. This was a fantastic episode from start to finish! I love how Molly was so enthusiastic about seeing her husband in action. It was also perfect that she started her writing career by writing a scene where her character kills her mother-in-law. The episode could’ve taken the more serious route, but I’m glad it didn’t. It was hilarious at every turn and one thing I loved the most was watching Molly come up with different ideas for her stories. I really wasn’t expecting it to be my number 1 choice, but after watching it again, I just couldn’t bring myself to place it any lower on this list!
