Best Heroine Moments In Horror Films – Part 3

For my 4th Women In Horror Month post, I’m sharing part 3 of the best heroine moments in horror history. These moments show how smart, brave, and resilient these women are. I hope you enjoy and let me know which horror heroine moments you feel should be in this series! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

When Nancy Tricked The Aliens – Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978)

Nancy Bellicec (Veronica Cartwright) owned a mud baths spa with her struggling poet husband, Jack (Jeff Goldblum). Their peaceful lives were turned upside down when the world was invaded by aliens who took over people’s bodies and lives. As each day went by, it was getting harder and harder to hide and figure out who you could trust. When Nancy got separated from Jack, she realized that it was possible to trick the aliens. The aliens didn’t show any emotion and she was able to keep herself from expressing any and walk among them for hours. Her plan worked perfectly for a while, and it was one of the smartest ideas in the entire horror genre!

When Ginny Tricked Jason – Friday The 13th Part 2

Ginny Field (Amy Steel) was a child psychology student who took a job as a camp counselor assistant trainer in a camp that opened up 5 years after the massacre at Camp Crystal Lake. Training and getting the camp ready were off to a good start, but crazed killer, Jason Voorhees (Warrington Gillette) quickly started to pick off the “intruders” one by one. After Ginny heard about the legend of Jason and Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer), she deduced that it’s possible that Jason was not only alive, but that the loss of his mother was his final straw. When Ginny was the last one left, she did everything she could to escape Jason. She came across Jason’s hideaway where he kept his mother’s head and sweater. Using her child psychology studies to her advantage, she put on Pamela’s sweater and pretended to be her to trick Jason. It worked for a good minute as Jason saw his mother talking to him again. Ginny definitely used everything she learned to her advantage and tamed Jason, even if it was just for a moment.

When Erin Killed Hoyt – The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

Erin (Jessica Biel) and her friends were on their way to see Lynyrd Skynyrd live when they picked up a distraught woman who ended up committing suicide in their van. Desperate to find help, they were led to the Sheriff Hoyt’s (R. Lee Ermey) home, where the first of their group was taken. Unknown to them, they were dead the minute they picked that poor girl up as Hoyt and his family set their sites on them. After losing all of her friends and having to fend off against the family’s biggest problem Leatherface (Andrew Bryniarski), Erin was victorious in her escape, but the man who picked her up started driving her right back to where she ran away from. She was almost caught by Hoyt again, but she was able to successfully Hotwire his patrol car and run him down. She didn’t stop after just one hit: she reversed and hit him 2 more times before driving off to safety. She also saved a little baby who was kidnapped by the family. It was such an epic moment!

When Selene Saved Michael – Underworld: Evolution

After being turned into a vampire/werewolf hybrid, Michael (Scott Speedman) had difficulty adjusting to his new life. His vampire love and death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) warned him that the life as he knew it was over and that he needed to accept it. While she was on a run, Michael traveled to the nearest eatery to dine. This proved to be impossible as his body rejected the food and only craved blood. When local authorities saw he was a wanted man, they tried to apprehend him. When they realized he wasn’t human, they tried to kill him. They shot at him constantly and hit him plenty of times. Once Selene realized he was in trouble, she stepped into action. One by one, she took out each armed man and even when she was shot herself, she defeated them all and was able to save Michael before it was too late. It was one of her best and most bada** fights!

When Kirby “Saved” Charlie – Scream 4

Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) is one of the best and brightest horror movie nerds. As the Ghostface killer returned to Woodsboro and targeted her and her friends, she did her best to figure out who was doing it and why. When her classmate and love interest, Charlie (Rory Culkin) was taken and tied up by Ghostface, it was her turn to play the game. When Ghostface hit her with a trick question, she demanded one more. Ghostface complied and before he could finish his question about horror remakes, she pulled every remake out of her head and listed them off one by one, silencing the killer. Although it was all a trick and Charlie was one of the killers tricking her, it was an impressive and valiant effort on her part!
