For my 9th Women In Horror Month post, I’m sharing a special WIHM edition of horror movie characters I wish didn’t die! These are some of the women in the horror genre who I believe deserved better than the fates they were given. I hope you enjoy and let me know which characters you wish didn’t die! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)
Rachel Lang – The Rage: Carrie 2

Poor Rachel (Emily Bergl) never had a chance at a good life. Like Carrie White (Sissy Spacek), she was born with telekinetic powers and her mother believed it was the work of Satan. She grew up in foster care and was an outcast in her school. She lost her best friend to suicide and was constantly harassed by the high school jocks responsible. When she finally connected with someone, her classmate, Jesse (Jason London) and fell in love, the jocks made her believe he was just using her for brownie points. If that’s not bad enough, the jocks recorded her intimate night with Jesse and displayed it for everyone to see. With everything this poor girl went through, I was hoping like crazy that she would get the happy ending with Jesse that she deserved. Fate is a cruel thing and I wish she didn’t meet the same fate as Carrie White.
Clear Rivers – Final Destination 2

Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) survived Death’s design once before after stepping off flight 180. Since then, she and her boyfriend Alex (Devon Sawa) cheated death time and time again. Unfortunately, it didn’t last forever as she tragically lost Alex to a fallen brick. All alone, Clear committed herself and lived in a padded room, safe from everything. When Death was hellbent on tying up loose ends, It created a massive car pile-up and started picking off the survivors one by one. One of the survivors, Kimberly (A.J. Cook) tracked Clear down and asked for her help. Although she was reluctant at first, Clear realized that she couldn’t just hide her entire life. She did her best to help the other survivors look out for clues to their demises. She defeated Death so many times but it didn’t last as she met her end in an explosion. I was rooting for her survival from the very beginning and it breaks my heart that she couldn’t figure out how to survive and live a happy life.
Denise Willis – House Of 1000 Corpses

With her friends and boyfriend, Denise (Erin Daniels) traveled across the country to write about the most bizarre and intriguing attractions. On their way to seek out a local legend, Dr. Satan (Walter Phelan) in the backwoods of Texas, they ended up trapped in the webs of the murderous Firefly family. Denise had to endure losing her friends and when her father tried to find her, he was killed too and she had to witness his killer wearing his skin. After being forced underground, she came face to face with Dr. Satan. She ran and fought for her life and she barely escaped their grasp. She was so close to getting away, but she was picked up and brought right back to Dr. Satan’s lair. She was an innocent soul who deserved to live after everything that she went through.
Jenny – The Human Centipede (First Sequence)

Jenny (Ashlynn Yennie) and her friend, Lindsay (Winter Williams) were traveling through Germany for a relaxing and fun vacation. After their car suffered a blowout, they trekked on foot to find help. Unfortunately, the house they found belonged to an insane doctor named Heiter (Dieter Laser). Heiter’s goal in life was to create a human centipede, and he believed Lindsay and Jenny were the perfect subjects. Lindsay made a good effort to escape, but in the end, Heiter got his wish. After being surgically attached to each other, Jenny didn’t realize she was already on her way to the grave. For her, the surgery wasn’t seamless and she started to slowly die from infection. It’s so frustrating to see how close these people were to being saved just for Jenny to succumb to her infection at the very end.
Sophie – Lights Out

Sophie (Maria Bello) was just a young girl when she was sent to a psychiatric hospital. There, she met an abusive patient, Diana (Alicia Vela-Bailey), and her life was over as she knew it. After Diana suffered a brutal death, her spirit clung onto and fed off of Sophie. She destroyed her life and her relationships for many years. Whoever Diana didn’t drive away she killed in the most vicious ways. After her children’s lives were in danger, Sophie realized that Diana was always going to haunt her loved ones as long as she was alive. She took her own life to free herself and her family from Diana’s wrath. Her life was so tragic and I hate that she couldn’t be free without dying herself.
