Craziest Horror Movie Mothers – Part 1

A while back, I made a post showcasing some of my favorite mothers in the horror genre. For my 11th post for Women In Horror Month, I wanted to shed light on the absolute craziest mothers in horror! These mothers have either harmed their families or harmed for their families. Either way, their murderous actions and manipulations helped them earn their place in this series. I hope you enjoy and let me know which horror movie mother you believe is the craziest! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Margaret White – Carrie (1976)

Margaret White (Piper Laurie) was a bible-thumping, abusive maniac who didn’t prepare her daughter, Carrie (Sissy Spacek) for the real world and punished her for wanting to fit in with her classmates. She hit Carrie, threw her drinks at her, and harmed herself when she realized she couldn’t control Carrie like she used to. She told her that she wished she killed her when she was a baby, and when Carrie needed her the most, Margaret tried to kill her. She was a nightmare of a mother and Carrie deserved better.

Pamela Voorhees – Friday The 13th (1980)

Pamela Voorhees’ (Betsy Palmer) son, Jason (Ari Lehman) was her whole world. After she tragically lost him at Camp Crystal Lake, she wanted to make everyone pay, even those who had nothing to do with her son’s drowning. She spent years keeping Camp Crystal Lake from reopening and when it was under new management and a new set of counselors began rebuilding, Pamela just couldn’t let it slide. Using a knife, axe, and arrows, she brutally picked off the counselors one by one. She was a very devoted mother brought to the point of murderous rage.

Tiffany Ray – Seed Of Chucky

Tiffany Ray (Jennifer Tilly) was a devoted and psychotic companion to serial killer, Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif). She killed everyone unfortunate to cross her path, and she enjoyed every bit of it. After being reunited with their long lost child, Glenn (Billy Boyd), Tiffany realized it was time for a change. She tried to give up killing for the sake of her family, but she learned pretty quickly that going cold turkey wouldn’t be so easy. She loved her family, but she couldn’t shove down her homicidal instincts deep enough to keep her off of this list.

Mother Lenz – Black Christmas (2006)

Mother Lenz (Karen Konoval) hated her life, her husband, and her son, Billy (Robert Mann). Wanting a change, she and her new boyfriend brutally murdered her husband and kept Billy prisoner in their attic for years. When Billy was 12 years old, Mom’s new husband fell asleep while they were having sex, and she went up to the attic to r*pe Billy. That horrible night brought Agnes (Dean Friss), Billy’s daughter/sister. She was a horrible woman who did vile things and started a chain reaction of murder and tragedy.

Ruth Chandler – The Girl Next Door

Ruth Chandler (Blanche Baker) was a woman who shouldn’t even be allowed near kids, let alone allowed to have kids of her own. After her nieces lost their parents and had to move in with her and her boys, Ruth almost immediately had problems with the older sister, Meg (Blythe Auffarth). She confronted her on anything, wouldn’t let her eat for days, and things got so much worse when she beat her little sister and Meg tried going to the police about it. She turned Meg into a prisoner, beat her, tortured her, and worst of all, she let her sons and the neighborhood kids do whatever they wanted to her. She was an absolute monster who raised her kids on despicable notions.
