Criminally Underrated Comedies – Part 2

I’m back with part 2 of the most criminally underrated comedy films! These are some of the comedies that I never see anyone talking about, or that I feel got unnecessary hate. If you like these recommendations, be sure to check out my Criminally Underrated Films Collection. I hope you enjoy and let me know what comedy films you feel should get more love!

Analyze That

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): Mobster Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro) is released into Dr. Ben Sobol’s (Billy Crystal) care, where only more chaos ensues.

I feel that this sequel doesn’t get the love it deserves. To me, it was a fantastic follow-up to Analyze This. I love the idea of a renowned mob boss trying to live the clean life and get a regular job. Plus, the references to The Sopranos was truly a great addition. I love seeing the continuation of these characters’ stories and think this movie deserves another chance by comedy fans.

Without A Paddle

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): After their friend dies, three men decide to fulfill their childhood dream by going on a camping expedition for the lost D.B. Cooper bounty, with calamitous results.

This was one of my favorite comedies when I was growing up. Matthew Lillard, Dax Shepard, and Seth Green have such great chemistry and every one of their scenes was so well done. This is a great tale centered around friendship, adventure, and finding out the most important things in life. It definitely has its goofy moments, but you know what? It’s a comedy! Goofiness-factor is a big plus!

Strange Wilderness

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): With the ratings dropping for his wilderness-themed television show, Peter Gaulke (Steve Zahn) and his film crew go to the Andes Mountains in search of Bigfoot.

This film is ridiculousness incarnate and I enjoy every minute of it. It has unforgettable and truly shocking moments. With its stacked cast and random hijinks, this film is easily one you can throw on and forget about the troubles of the world for a while. If you love silly wildlife films, definitely put this one on your list!

Zack And Miri Make A Porno

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): Lifelong platonic friends Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) look to solve their respective cash-flow problems by making an adult film together. As the cameras roll, however, the duo begin to sense that they may have more feelings for each other than they previously thought.

This is definitely one of Kevin Smith’s most underrated and raunchiest films. One of the best aspects of it is that it’s very pro sex-work and it’s so different from any comedy I’ve seen before. It was great seeing these characters find something that works for them and seeing them attempt to make their film work was just so entertaining. All of the characters are unforgettable and each one brings their own flair to the film.

Game Night

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A group of friends who meet regularly for game nights find themselves entangled in a real-life mystery when the shady brother of one of them is seemingly kidnapped by dangerous gangsters.

This film was such a delightful surprise! There wasn’t a single actor who didn’t sprout comedic gold here. It was a wild descent into chaos from a simple game night and whoever came up with the concept was genius. This is a hell of an adventure filled with so many twists and turns, it’ll leave you on the edge of your seat with tears streaming down your face.

Bad Trip

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): This mix of a scripted buddy comedy road movie and a real hidden camera prank show follows the outrageous misadventures of two buds stuck in a rut who embark on a cross-country road trip to NYC. The storyline sets up shocking real pranks.

I would absolutely love it if there were more movies with this concept. I love a good prank and road trip comedies, so this one has the best of both worlds. It has its hilarious and jaw-dropping moments and seeing the pranked individuals’ reactions are just too great. Eric André certainly knows how to shock and confuse people and this film is a can’t-miss.
