Worst Significant Others In Horror Films – Part 2

Welcome to Day 6 of Spooky Season!! A few years back, I made a post showing some of the worst significant others in the horror genre. At the time, I thought it was going to be just one post. However, I saw more horror movies and more people who treated their loved ones so poorly, so I chose to turn this into a series. The list can include girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, wives, any and all are considered! I’m only focusing on how the individual treats their loved ones, so even if someone is a horrible villain, if they treat their loved one well, they won’t be included here. I hope you enjoy and let me know who you feel deserves to be in this series! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!)

Deke – Creepshow 2

Before the local lake froze over, 4 friends Deke (Paul Satterfield), Laverne (Jeremy Green), Randy (Daniel Beer), and Rachel (Page Hannah) decided to have a fun day and swim over and hang out at a raft that’s sitting in the middle of it. When they got there they noticed a strange blob in the middle of the lake. They soon found out that it could actually move on its own and if you were unfortunate to fall into it, it would completely devour you. The group realized this after it grabbed Rachel and pulled her in. Laverne was understandably freaked out, as they all were, but the way Deke reacted to her being scared was off-putting. When he talked about swimming out and leaving her, she protested and he responded by grabbing her by the throat and threatening to punch her if she didn’t shut up. His true colors definitely came out in that moment.

Trevor Lyle – Candyman (1992)

Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) always suspected something was up with her husband, Trevor (Xander Berkley). As she was researching the urban legend known as Candyman (Tony Todd), a vengeful spirit who killed those who dared to speak his name, she ended up summoning him and sealing her fate. Candyman started killing those around her and framing her for the murders. As she was going through all of this, Trevor was sneaking around with a young girl, one of his students, of all people. When Helen was committed to an asylum after her best friend was killed, Trevor thought it was the perfect time to move his girlfriend into their condo! Helen escaped and he called the police on her. After Helen died defeating Candyman and saving a baby he took, Trevor had the AUDACITY to bring his girlfriend to her funeral and act like he missed her. He was a scumbag to the very end.

Blaire Lily – Unfriended

On the anniversary of Laura Barns’ (Heather Sossaman) suicide, Blaire (Shelley Hennig), her boyfriend, Mitch (Moses Storm), and the rest of their friends were on a typical Skype group call when they noticed they were being haunted by Laura through their technology. As the night progressed and the friends were being killed, a game of Never Have I Ever revealed that Blaire cheated on Mitch with their friend, Adam (Will Peltz). Doing that was absolutely despicable, but it’s not the main reason she’s in this series. When they were the last ones standing, Laura asked which one of them posted the embarrassing video online that led to her suicide. After Mitch forgave her for cheating, she decided to sell him out! She told Laura it was him knowing d**n well that she was the one who posted it, and Laura killed him. She acted like she cared about him so much, yet she had to betray him TWICE.

Jack Chambers – Don’t Worry Darling

Jack (Harry Styles) and Alice’s (Florence Pugh) relationship hit a wall after Jack lost his job and Alice had to take extra shifts to support them both. He didn’t like that she wasn’t there for him all the time. Normal boyfriends would just get another job so their girlfriends wouldn’t have to work so hard. What did Jack decide to do? He took Alice away from her life and put her in a simulation where she catered to him hand and foot like a 1950s housewife. The fact that he got a job just to pay for the simulation showed it was never about making her life easier, it was about controlling her. Just thinking about it makes me mad!

Tricia Albright – Orphan: First Kill

Tricia Albright (Julia Stiles) was a woman obsessed with reputation and image. When her psychopathic son, Gunnar (Matthew Finlan) killed his little sister, Esther, Tricia decided the best thing to do was completely cover it up, pretend nothing ever happened, and let the rest of the world, including her husband Allen (Rossif Sutherland), believe she just disappeared. When Leena Klammer (Isabelle Fuhrman), a crazy killer who looked and acted like a little girl, told everyone she was Esther, Tricia had to keep up with the charade in order to keep everyone in the dark about the truth. When his little girl disappeared, Allen was absolutely devastated. Tricia let it weigh on him for years and when she and Leena had a power struggle, she and Gunnar were going to fake her suicide. She absolutely did not care how any of this affected and would affect Allen. She definitely did not deserve him.
