A while back, I asked the members of my favorite American Dad Facebook group about their favorite B-Stories in the show. As I was reading their answers, it inspired me to create a new series here. These are some of the B-Stories that I love as much as – if not more than – their episodes’ main stories. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite American Dad B-Stories! (POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!)
Roger And Hayley’s Persona War – Jack’s Back

When Hayley needs to get an internship for her business class, Roger offers her a job at his bar. When Hayley refuses to do the work, Roger starts a persona war that backfires. I don’t really like episodes that include Stan’s father, Jack, so it took me a while to really appreciate how great this B-Story is! I lust love how Hayley played along to the whole persona game and I think it’s so great how she outsmarted him in the end. I’d watch a whole feature length movie of them just creating random personas with wild stories.
Reality’s Drama – Fantasy Baseball

When their favorite drama show gets cancelled, Roger tries to create real life twists and turns for Francine’s entertainment. Roger did a fantastic job at creating the crazy storylines that are found in soap operas. We get surprise pregnancies, cheating scandals, and terminal news. What really made this story great was the fact that Francine was completely unimpressed. Funny enough, her criticisms had nothing to do with the twists and were more about the criticisms of the actual show. It perfectly ended with a twist that Francine just loved and Roger absolutely hated.
Roger’s Random Beef – The Unincludeds

While dining out with Hayley, Roger’s grudge against their waitress grows after she compliments Hayley’s order but not his. This is one of Roger’s best and most random beefs. The lengths that he went to just to get revenge is astonishing. He even went as far as to get a job at a restaurant that she was eating at so he could diss her order. It would’ve been the craziest thing he did in the episode if he didn’t rip off a chunk of her hair after his plan backfired.
Reginald vs. Bullock – 100 A.D.

While driving Bullock around in a limo, Reginald finds out that Hayley and Jeff ran off to elope and vows to win Hayley back. After Bullock goes into great detail about his affair with Hayley, Reginald decides to pull over and fight him. This is one of my favorite fight scenes in the whole show. It was greatly choreographed and hilarious! I honestly wish that Bullock and Reginald had more scenes together because their banter in this story was awesome.
Roger’s Directorial Disaster – May The Best Stan Win

After finding a sex doll, Steve and his friends try to recreate the movie Mannequin with it. After Roger offers to direct the film, he changes it to The Goonies. The Goonies is one of my all-time favorite movies and I love seeing these characters try to recreate the scenes in it. Roger was right in saying Steve and his friends are basically The Goonies already! I also love that in typical Roger fashion, he ruins all of the takes by forgetting that the treasure map they have is fake and there is no real treasure.
