First off, I want to apologize for being away for so long. I’m trying to get back into routine, and I thank you for your patience! Today, I’m sharing part 5 of what I believe to be the dumbest decisions made by horror movie characters. These decisions really made things worse for these characters and/or the people around them. I hope you enjoy and let me know what decisions you feel should be in this series! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)
When Tom Didn’t Run Back Outside With The Paper – Scream 3

Tom Prinze (Matt Keeslar) was an up-and-coming actor who got his supposed big break in Stab 3. Unfortunately for him, a crazed maniac was killing the other cast members and stalking the people the Stab movies were based on. After production killed the movie, Tom and the other protagonists had a get-together at his co-star, Jennifer’s (Parker Posey) house. Of course, the killer found them and decided to add a few more victims to their bodycount. With the power out, the survivors received a few pages of a new script, saying the killer will grant mercy to one. With everyone waiting outside, Tom ran back inside to retrieve the final page. Tom could’ve easily ran back outside with the page, and let’s face it, there was plenty of light outside to read it. Instead, he went further into the dark house to grab a lighter. With that lighter, Tom unintentionally blew up the house and killed himself in the process.
When Jeff Returned To The Cabin – Cabin Fever

Jeff (Joey Kern) and his friends celebrated their college graduation by spending time together in a small cabin in the woods. Everything seemed to be going just fine until a local hermit arrived on their doorstep carrying a flesh-eating virus. With their car completely messed up, they were practically trapped. After a few of his friends became infected, Jeff decided to just bow out. He grabbed the rest of their beer supply and ran off into the woods alone. It was a selfish move but pretty smart considering the rest of his friends were doomed already. After escaping this horrible disease by getting drunk on beer instead of drinking the tainted water supply, I couldn’t help but wonder why on earth he would return to the cabin. He could’ve just traveled in any other direction and he probably would’ve been ok. Instead, he went to the cabin, gloated in the fact that he was the last survivor, and got himself shot by local authorities. I’m definitely not sad that he’s gone, but his stupidity still baffles me.
When Dianne Opened The Door – Shaun Of The Dead

Dianne’s (Lucy Davis) simple and happy life was turned upside down when corpses all over London reanimated with a hunger for living flesh. She, her boyfriend David (Dylan Moran), and their friend Liz (Kate Ashfield) were trapped in their flat when they were rescued by Liz’s ex-boyfriend, Shaun (Simon Pegg), who took them all to the local pub to hold up. Although the place was surrounded by zombies, the group of survivors did the best they could to board everything up. When zombies crashed through the window, they grabbed David and completely tore him apart. Dianne, holding one of his severed legs, just threw the front door open, thinking that she could still save him. I’ve never seen a character in THIS much denial! She literally witnessed his head being ripped off, and she threw that door wide open, putting herself and the other survivors in a worse position.
When Holt Ghosted Julia – Rings

Holt (Alex Roe) and Julia (Matilda Lutz) were high school sweethearts madly in love. When Holt had to leave for college, they kept in touch on a regular basis. Then, the texts and the Skype calls all stopped. Holt completely cut off all contact with Julia, sending her in a panic. When she was finally able to track him down, she found out he was part of an experiment where you watch a video that can kill you seven days after. Holt didn’t want her involved in any way, and he did the one thing that guaranteed she would be. All he had to do was text her every now and then and tell her that he’s ok, just a little too busy to Skype. He could’ve been completely nonchalant about things to avoid suspicion and protected Julia, instead he worried her and her actions led to her being in Samara’s (Bonnie Morgan) grasp.
When Kyle Tried To Shoot Brandon – Brightburn

When an alien baby, Brandon (Jackson A. Dunn) crash landed near their farm, Kyle (David Denman) and Tori Breyer (Elizabeth Banks) thought their prayers for a child have been answered. However, around his 12th birthday, Brandon’s strange powers and thirst for violence began to grow. Brandon massacred the family’s chickens, broke his classmate’s hand, and killed his classmate’s mother. When he killed his uncle, Kyle’s best friend, Kyle confirmed to himself that they were raising a monster. While Tori was still in denial, Kyle took Brandon out on one last hunting trip. As Brandon was distracted, Kyle tried to shoot him in the head. How was this a dumb idea, you ask? Well, the whole time he’s known Brandon, he never once saw him get sick or injured. How he thought he could just shoot an alien who never bleeds, I’ll never know. Of course, the bullet bounced off of his head, and Kyle royally ticked off an all too powerful being. He definitely sealed his fate by thinking he could take care of the problem.
