My Favorite Horror Movie Prequels – Part 3

It’s time to go back to where it all began! I’m back with part 3 of my favorite horror movie prequels. These are some of the prequels that I believe did a fantastic job telling the origin stories of some of my favorite villainous characters. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite horror movie prequels!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): Before being sent to serve in Vietnam, two brothers and their girlfriends take one last road trip, but when they get into an accident, a terrifying experience will take them to a secluded house of horrors, with a chainsaw-wielding killer.

Not only is this one of my favorite horror movie prequels, this is my all-time favorite movie in the entire Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise! I think this prequel was executed perfectly. I love that we got to see the origin story of Leatherface and his psychotic family (in this particular TCM universe, of course). It was just as superbly thrilling and bloody as its predecessor.

Siren

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A bachelor party becomes a savage fight for survival when the groomsmen unwittingly unleash a fabled predator upon the festivities.

Lily (Hannah Fierman) is one of the most terrifying creatures created in the V/H/S universe, and I love that we got to see her origin story. I love the protagonists and the antagonists are so fascinating, that I kind of need to see their origin story as well. This was a great horror film that really makes me miss the Chiller Channel days!

Leatherface

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A teenage Leatherface escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates, kidnapping a young nurse and taking her on a road trip from Hell, while being pursued by a lawman out for revenge.

I have to confess that it wasn’t until I watched it a couple of times that I realized this was a prequel to the 2013 Texas Chainsaw film. Things finally made sense and I ended up loving it even more. I love movies where crazy meets crazier and I think this one was just done so well. You have evil on all sides and it just keeps you on the edge of your seat every step of the way!

The Nun

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A priest with a haunted past and a novice on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a young nun in Romania and confront a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun.

I have to say that this is the Conjuring installment that scared me the most and left the biggest impact on me. The setting and the atmosphere are so magnificent, that no matter how may times I’ve seen it, it STILL sends a chill down my spine. The characters are so interesting, and I love how the film was a able to connect the ties between this and the first Conjuring film. I think it was a great origin story for such an evil creature.

Annabelle Comes Home

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): While babysitting the daughter of Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) Warren, a teenager and her friend unknowingly awaken an evil spirit trapped in a doll.

I’ll admit that I didn’t really care for this prequel when I first saw it, but I’m SO happy that I gave it another watch! I love that we got more stories and spirits that the Warrens investigated. There was a shock on every corner and I just love the characters. Even the ending made me choke up a little. I think this was a great addition to the Conjuring universe!
