We’ve now reached Day 7 of Spooky Season!! It’s time for round 4 of the best horror movie double features. If you’re stumped on what films to watch this month, these are some of the horror films that I personally think work really well together. As always, these are films that are connected by at least one element, but are NOT a part of the same franchise. I hope you enjoy and let me know what films you think should be in this series!
You’re Next and Ready Or Not

Connection: VERY Dysfunctional Wealthy Families
Sometimes you need to watch a couple of dysfunctional families to put things into perspective about your own. In Ready Or Not, newlywed, Grace (Samara Weaving) believes she’s playing a harmless game of Hide And Seek with her new in-laws. In reality, the messed up family try to hunt her down and kill her before sunrise. In You’re Next, a couple is celebrating their anniversary with their kids and their significant others. Their quaint dinner turns deadly as they realize they are the targets of masked killers. I think these two films really go together because the dynamics of the families are too similar to ignore. Every time I watch one, it makes me want to throw the other one on immediately after. If you want lots of gore, lots of laughs, and lots of fights, this double feature is perfect for you!
Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon and Capture Kill Release

Connection: The Process Of Serial Killers
For these killers, all they need is carnage, corpses, and cameras to follow their every step. Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon follows a documentary crew who follows an up-and-coming serial killer named Leslie Vernon (Nathan Baesel). As he gets closer to his massacre masterpiece, the crew members have to decide to help his victims, or keep the cameras rolling. In Capture Kill Release, a married couple, Jennifer (Jennifer Fraser) and Farhang (Farhang Ghajar) document the process of their first murder, from choosing the right victim, to picking the best weapons. Tensions rise between them when Farhang begins to have doubts on whether or not he is capable of taking a life. These two films do a wonderful job at showing the messed up process a killer has to go through to quench their thirst for murder. There isn’t a dull moment with these characters as we follow their chaotic lives. The documentary/found footage style for these films is an especially realistic touch!
A Christmas Horror Story and Krampus

Connection: Christmas With The Krampus!
Krampus is a historic Christmas symbol, known mostly as the Anti-Claus who punished children on the holiday rather than reward them. These two films are some of my favorite representations of him. In Krampus, a little boy is the last of his family to lose the Christmas spirit. Because of this, Krampus and his goons target the house and terrorize the family in his own Yuletide ways. A Christmas Horror Story tells the story of Krampus, among other frightful beings terrorizing the town of Bailey Downs on Christmas Eve. Although one is more comedic than the other, I think both films still work really well as a double feature. They perfectly capture the festive holiday and bring new terrors with an already terrifying legend!
My Bloody Valentine and April Fool’s Day

Connection: Holiday Horrors
If you’re not really feeling the Halloween spirit, I have a couple of horror films centered around OTHER holidays for you! In My Bloody Valentine, a group of young adults plan a spectacular Valentine’s Day party, ignoring the warnings of a madman who swore to kill those who celebrate it. In April Fool’s Day, after a prank goes horribly wrong, a group of college students spend a weekend at a friend’s beautiful estate, where they’re stalked by a crazed killer and they have nowhere to run. This double feature actually wasn’t my idea. When I first bought these films, they were on the same disc, but I think it was an excellent idea to put them together! Both films have wonderful group dynamics and all of the characters are just fun to watch and listen to. Plus, they both have plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing until the very end!
FearDotCom and The Ring

Connection: Curiosities Killing The Cats
Sometimes, it’s best to just leave well enough alone and not let your curiosity get the better of you. That’s what these characters have difficulty doing in these films. FearDotCom follows a vengeful spirit who mentally tortured and killed those who dared to go on the website that she was tortured and killed on. The Ring follows a demented little girl who is killed and puts a curse on a videotape that kills everyone who watches it. Both films have a wonderful creep factor and mystery element centered around curses. This is a perfect duo to turn the lights off, grab some popcorn, and have a genuine spooky double feature with!
