The Absolute Worst Horror Movie Friends – Part 4

Welcome to Day 8 of Spooky Season!! Today is dedicated to some of the worst friends in the horror genre! These friends are in this series due to either exacerbating everyone’s dire situations, or being the very cause of those situations. I hope you enjoy and let me know who you feel deserves to be in this series! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)

Muffy… Or Should I Say Buffy St. John? – April Fool’s Day

Muffy St. John (Deborah Foreman) was given her family’s estate under the condition that she could prove to her father that she could run it and pay for it. Her idea was to charge guests for an immersive murder mystery experience. She wanted to test her mystery story out before officially opening up to the public, so she invited her college friends to the place under the impression that they were just spending an ordinary weekend together. Things started innocent enough, a few little pranks here and there. Then, she put her REAL plan into action. She pretended to be her psychotic twin sister, “Buffy” and pretended to kill her friends one by one. The fact that Muffy made these guys not only believe that their friends were killed, but they’d be killed as well was so horrible. Plus, she planted some things from their pasts to mess with them which was especially messed up. The friend I felt bad for the most was Nan (Leah Pinsent). The others already treated her like she didn’t belong, and then Muffy threw a moment from her past she wanted to forget RIGHT in her face! Muffy really went too far here.

Chip The Chump – Serial Mom

Chip Sutphin (Matthew Lillard) was just a regular high school kid who was obsessed with the horror genre. When his sister, Misty (Ricki Lake) came to him about her suspicions that the serial killer in their town was their own mother, Beverly (Kathleen Turner), Chip, his girlfriend, Birdie (Patricia Dunnock), and their friend, Scotty (Justin Whalin) laughed it off and didn’t take it seriously… at first. To test Beverly, Chip told her that Scotty suspected that she was the killer. Yep, he used his own friend as bait to see if his mother would try to kill him. Sure, they went to Scotty’s house to stop her, but she set her eyes on different victims that night. Later, Scotty witnessed Beverly murdering someone, and THAT’S when she decided to kill him. After chasing him around town, Beverly (and family) followed Scotty into a rock concert where she set him on fire. Does Chip care about this? Nope! He literally witnessed his mother light his best friend on fire and all he could say was the victims “sort of deserved it.” If there was an award for Most Apathetic Friend in the horror genre, I nominate Chip!

Danny The Dick – This Is The End

When the rapture hit Hollywood, a group of celebrities hid out inside James Franco’s house, hoping to be rescued. Among that group was Danny McBride, who crashed out in Franco’s tub long before the world ended. Now, I don’t blame him for cooking a majority of the rations they were saving in one morning, because he didn’t know at the time that the world ended and that was the only food they had. It’s the stuff AFTER that I blame him for. He constantly fought with everyone, he wasted half a jug of water in a fit of rage, and he tried to shoot everyone when they decided he couldn’t be with them in the house anymore. He eventually became King of the Cannibals, thriving in the apocalypse, and he along with the other cannibals, he ate Franco alive. He is the WORST friend to ride out the end of the world with!

Tonya The Tormentor – The Call

Tonya (Erin Sanders) was a very disturbed soul. When she was a little girl, she was jealous of all the attention that her little sister, Laura (Brooklyn Anne Miller) got from everyone, especially their father. When Laura got a beautiful necklace from her teacher, Edith Cranston (Lin Shaye) for her birthday, Tonya killed her and kept the necklace for herself. Edith was framed for Laura’s disappearance and for years, Tonya and her friends tormented her. They damaged her property, tried to run her out of town, ruined her whole reputation. After Edith saw that Tonya was wearing the necklace that she gave to Laura, Edith finally put the pieces together. She decided to kill herself and curse those who tormented her all these years with their own demons. Now, I know Tonya’s friends made their own choices when it came to Edith, but in my opinion, Tonya basically damned her friends under false pretenses. One friend even escaped Edith’s curse and he chose to come back for Tonya, not knowing that this was all because of her!

Bunny The Blind-Eye Turner – Don’t Worry Darling

After losing her kids, Bunny (Olivia Wilde) saw an opportunity to get them back. She joined the Victory Project, a simulation where residents lived like it was the 1950s. While she was a willing participant, the same can’t be said for the other women in the simulation. The other women were forced into this new life without their knowledge by men they either trusted or didn’t know at all. When a few of the women started to question their realities, Bunny just blew them off and acted like they were crazy. One of her friends, Alice (Florence Pugh) was even put through shock therapy to forget everything she was questioning. They considered Bunny a friend when she stood idly by as they were manipulated and used to serve these men. It wasn’t until Alice finally remembered her real life and killed her “husband” that Bunny finally confessed that she knew the entire time. Sure, she helped Alice in the end, but does that really make up for turning a blind eye all this time before? I say no!
