Welcome back to Behind The Scenes Saturday!! For the second BTS post of Spooky Season 2025, I pay tribute to one of my favorite films, The Munsters! Although it’s not technically a Halloween film, I still think it’s a film that’s very in-tune with the holiday. So, be sure to grab the right brain, don’t stand in the way of true love, and enjoy these fun pictures and bits of trivia!!

(SPOILER ALERT!!!)

- When the film’s director, Rob Zombie commented on why he shot the film with a heightened color scheme, he stated, “I noticed when the actors were in their make-up and they were just walking around, getting lunch or whatever, they looked like cartoon characters come to life. They were just so insanely colorful. I had to light the movie in the same fashion. It really seemed at all times like a live-action cartoon, which was really exciting.”
- Original Eddie Munster, Butch Patrick voiced the Tin Can Man who officiated Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie) and Herman’s (Jeff Daniel Phillips) wedding.
- Pat Priest, who played Marilyn in the original show, was the voice of the Transylvania Airlines announcer.

- Legendary horror hostess, Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) played real estate agent, Barbara Carr in this film. Peterson stated that this one of the rare straight roles that she’s ever played.
- This was the first movie directed by Rob Zombie to not receive an R rating by the MPAA.
- Daniel Roebuck (The Count) is a huge fan of the original show. He once worked with the original Herman Munster, Fred Gwynne on Disorganized Crime and Gwynne even signed a Herman Munster doll for him. He also met the original Grandpa Munster, Al Lewis.

- The character of Zombo (Jeff Daniel Phillips) was also in the original show as one of Eddie’s idols.
- When Lily and Orlock (Richard Brake) are walking through the town, you can see a sign behind them that says Living Dead Girls. This is a nod to one of Rob Zombie’s most famous songs and music videos, Living Dead Girl.
- When Lester (Tomas Boykin) is first brought to Zoya Krupp (Catherine Schell), she refers to him as “Woof Woof.” Woof Woof was the name of Eddie’s werewolf doll in the original show.

- Rob Zombie’s always been a big fan of the original show, and he’s shown that in his previous work. He named one of his songs, Dragula after Grandpa Munster’s race car. In House Of 1000 Corpses, a couple of the characters are seen watching the show. In Halloween II, a bouncer is trying to describe his boss as Herman Munster.
- Although uncredited, Daniel Roebuck also plays one of the patrons at the French cafe that Lily and Herman visit on their honeymoon.
- The character of Bela (Levente Törköly) was named after Bela Lugosi, who also played a Romani named Bela in The Wolf Man.

- The Wayans brothers held the rights to The Munsters for a while, but they didn’t really do anything with them. In 2017, Seth Myers planned on rebooting the series for NBC where the Munster family would live in Brooklyn.
- Rob Zombie was first introduced to The Munsters through a model kit of the living room. Then, when he was an adult, he visited Al Lewis’s restaurant.
- Dee Wallace, who has a voice cameo in this film as the Good Morning Transylvania announcer, also appeared in the 1995 made-for-television film, Here Come The Munsters.

- When Herman is backstage, testing out new ideas for his act, he pays homage to famous comedians, Groucho Marx and Steve Martin.
- It’s speculated that The Count donning a mustache in this film is a nod to how Count Dracula donned a mustache in the original Dracula novel.
- While Lily and Orlock are walking through town together, Sheri Moon Zombie is wearing the same exact outfit that she wore in Rob Zombie’s Never Gonna Stop music video.

- The character Ezra Mosher (Daniel Roebuck) was named after Bob Mosher, a writer-producer of the original show.
- Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis worked together on another show called Car 54, Where Are You? In this film, when Herman sees that his neighbors are humans and he runs back inside, he yells, “Car 54, where are you?”
- In Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, strip club owner Big Lou dresses as Frankenstein’s monster, and his bouncer, Howard tries to tell him he looks like Herman Munster. Ironically, Howard is played by Jeff Daniel Phillips, who plays Herman in this film, and Big Lou is played by Daniel Roebuck, who plays his father-in-law, The Count in this film.
