My Favorite Horror Final Guys – Part 7

Welcome to Day 19 of Spooky Season!! Today, I’m sharing part 7 of my favorite final guys in the horror genre! Whatever danger was threatening them, these men have surely fought for their lives and persevered. I hope you enjoy and let me know which final guys you feel should be in this series! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)

Wolfe – Ilsa: She Wolf Of The SS

Wolfe (Gregory Knoph) was a German born American taken prisoner and sent to work at a concentration camp ran by mad SS doctor, Ilsa (Dyanne Thorne). When she wasn’t torturing and experimenting on the female prisoners, she slept with the male workers, and if they didn’t satisfy her needs, she would castrate them the very next morning. When it was Wolfe’s turn, she was in for quite a surprise. He was able to give her exactly what she needed, and he used that to his advantage. With her completely wrapped around his finger, Wolfe was able to successfully execute an uprising with the prisoners and other workers. While he wanted the allies to put the nazi doctors on trial, the prisoners decided to execute them instead. With another prisoner, Wolfe was able to escape the camp before more nazis showed up to clean house. This is one of those rare moments in horror films where a man’s natural gift saved his life.

Bub – Day Of The Dead

Now, this series is focused on the men in the horror genre who fought and survived their films. I’m switching it up a little today, because I want to make Bub an honorary final guy! Bub’s (Sherman Howard) life was seemingly over when he was killed and turned into a zombie in the midst of the apocalypse. He then became a test subject for Dr. Logan (Richard Liberty), a mad scientist whose goal was to tame the zombies and rid them of their hunger for living flesh. Thanks to Logan, Bub was not only able to control his hunger, but he also retained some of his humanity… which included remembering how to shoot a gun. When the soldiers protecting Logan found out he was rewarding Bub with bits of dead army men, they shot him down without hesitation. Bub discovered his body, grabbed a nearby gun, and killed the man responsible. In a way, Bub got his life back and he could now have the best of both worlds: not being completely braindead and not being eaten alive by his new kin.

Rudy – The Monster Squad

Before there was Steve Harrington, there was Rudy! Rudy (Ryan Lambert) was the cool kid who always stood up for the little guys and no one wanted to mess with him. After defending bullied kid, Horace (Brent Chalem), he was invited to join him and his friends in their monster club. The club quickly turned into The Monster Squad after the leader, Sean (Andre Gower) discovered that real monsters were invading their town to retrieve a special amulet and rule the world with it. Let’s face it, Rudy was the squad’s best member. He stole and made all of the weapons he needed to fight, and when it came to the monsters, he definitely had the highest body count. He destroyed the Mummy, the Wolf Man, AND all three of Dracula’s brides. The way he joined the club with no hesitation and was down to kill some actual monsters is definitely commendable!

Freddie Harris – Halloween: Resurrection

Freddie Harris (Busta Rhymes) was a reality programmer looking to exploit infamous serial killer, Michael Myers (Brad Loree), by having a reality show set in his childhood home. With cameras all around, 6 young adults were chosen to explore Michael’s house and look for clues to the reasons behind his insanity. Freddie planted random clues, set up traps and scares, and even dressed up as Michael in order to scare the participants… all in the name of entertaining TV. When Michael returned home to pick off our protagonists one by one, Freddie did his best to protect the last one standing. Using Kung Fu moves he got from his favorite movies (and a little bit of electricity), Freddie defeated Michael and got to be the hero who saved the final girl. Now, doing a show like that was absolutely wrong, but I believe Freddie really redeemed himself in the end. Plus, he’s one of the rare people who got to yell and Michael Myers and live to talk about it. That definitely earned my respect.

Claus – Lost Boys: The Thirst

Claus (Joe Vaz) was a cameraman for famous TV personality, Lars von Goetz (Steven van Niekerk). When the brother of a vampire romance author, Gwen (Tanit Phoenix), was kidnapped by real vampires, Gwen hired Lars and expert vampire hunter, Edgar Frog (Corey Feldman) to rescue him. Thinking it was all just pretend, Lars didn’t take the threat seriously and he was brutally butchered by a very large vampire. Luckily, Claus DID take it seriously, and he was able to destroy the vampire immediately after losing his boss. I have to say Claus was a real underdog here! He was pulled into the world of vampires, absolutely terrified, but he stood his ground and helped keep the other vampires at bay so Edgar could kill the head vampire. He was a truly underrated fighter!
