We’ve now reached Day 28 of Spooky Season!! I’ll admit, I’m a big sucker for rescues, especially in horror films. These are some of my favorite “Save The Day” moments in the horror genre. Just when you think a protagonist is doomed, they are suddenly saved by a factor we didn’t expect. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite “Save The Day” moment! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)
When Ali Saved Chris – Friday The 13th Part III

A year after a traumatic event, Chris (Dana Kimmell) returned to her family cabin with her friends in order to move on. When a couple of her friends rode into town, they ended up angering a biker gang led by Ali (Nick Savage). The gang wanted revenge, so they followed the friends back to the cabin. They planned on lighting the barn on fire, but what they didn’t know was that local madman, Jason Voorhees (Richard Brooker) was also in the barn. After losing his crew, Ali tried to fight Jason, but Jason hit him in the head multiple times left him for dead. After losing all of her friends, Chris was all alone against Jason. She fought and ran all over the place before making a final stand in the barn. As Jason advanced towards her, Ali popped out from behind him and planned on a successful round 2. Unfortunately, Jason immediately chopped his arm off then made sure he was dead this time. However, Ali distracted Jason long enough for Chris to grab a nearby axe and drive it into Jason’s head. It wasn’t exactly a typical rescue, but Ali gave Chris all the time she needed.
When Pete Saved Anne – Body Bags

Anne (Alex Datcher) was a young student who was starting her new job working the graveyard shift at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. After being shown the ropes by her boss, Bill (Robert Carradine), Anne was ready to get to work. She had a rough start, dealing with sketchy customers, accidentally locking herself out of her booth, and having an uneasy feeling the whole time. When a customer, Pete (David Naughton) stopped by for gas, the uneasy feeling went away for a while and there was even some flirting between the 2. When he left, the uneasy feeling soon came back. After finding a dead body and trying to call her boss for help, she soon realized Bill was actually a serial killer who murdered her real boss and now was after her. She put up a good fight, but she found herself trapped in a car she tried to escape in. As Bill approached her, Pete swooped in and fought him, distracting him long enough for Anne to squish him with the car. It was a great and surprising rescue. I still imagine Anne and Pete telling their grandkids about how they met.
When Watson Saved Eddie – House On Haunted Hill (1999)

Watson Pritchett (Chris Kattan) was the inheritor of a former mental asylum haunted by the spirits of the mental patients and their doctors who burned up inside of it many years ago. He was wise enough to stay away from it for a while, until amusement park mogul, Stephen Price (Geoffrey Rush) offered him a pretty penny to let him host his wife’s birthday there. Stephen then picked 5 people and offered them all $1,000,000 each if they could survive the night. The group ended up being trapped in the house, and after quite a body count, the true darkness in the house was released, consuming all but 2: Sara (Ali Larter) and Eddie (Taye Diggs). The survivors ended up finding a window that wasn’t sealed up in the attic. Sara was able to climb out, but the darkness cut the rope holding the seal, re-trapping Eddie inside. Eddie thought he was a goner, but Watson’s spirit grabbed the rope and pulled it long enough for him to escape. This one might be a little corny, but I just love how Watson was so afraid and in the end, he was able to step up and be the hero!
When Swink And Abigail Saved Hutch – Stay Alive

After losing his best friend, Hutch (Jon Foster) was gifted a mysterious underground video game called Stay Alive. Hutch and his friends played the game, and after another one of his friends was slaughtered, he realized that if they died in the video game, they died in real life. The incantation in the game summoned the spirit of Elizabeth Báthory. They figured the way to get rid of her would be to find and burn her body. When it was down to 3 survivors, they finally found the tower her body was in. While Hutch and his friend, Abigail (Samaire Armstrong) went into the tower, their pal, Swink (Frankie Muniz) continued playing the game to aid them. Unfortunately, Swink was killed in the game, and they believed he was now dead. When Abigail got captured, it was all up to Hutch to end it. He successfully lit the body on fire, but he was now trapped in the room, surrounded by fire. Just when Hutch thought it was the end, Swink kicked open the door and he and Abigail pulled him out! It was a fantastic “save the day” moment AND a great “Surprise! I’m not dead” moment!
When Vincent Saved Harris – The Gravedancers

After losing their friend, Harris (Dominic Purcell), Sid (Marcus Thomas), and Kira (Josie Maran) snuck into the cemetery late at night to have a proper reunion. After Sid found a lament focusing on celebration, the trio drunkenly danced on a few of the graves, not anticipating the turmoil it would bring them. They became haunted by three deadly spirits looking to kill them after a month of torment. When they went to paranormal researcher, Vincent (Tchéky Karyo) and his assistant, Frances (Megahn Perry), they learned that if they bury the bodies a second time, the spirits would be laid to rest once more. Unfortunately, Frances hid the skulls so she could continue documenting the hauntings. This mistake got herself, Kira, and Sid killed. When Vincent tried to help Sid, he was knocked clear across the room. With Harris and his wife left, they tried to bury their skull in a nearby hole. However, Harris was dragged across the yard and pulled into the ground. He tossed the skull, but it JUST missed the hole. To everyone’s surprise, Vincent got there in time, grabbed the skull, and threw it into the hole, saving Harris’s life and freeing him of the curse.
