The Most Memorable Horror Movie Betrayals – Part 1

I’m back with a new series! One of the biggest elements in the horror genre is betrayal. A character almost always experiences that moment where someone they trusted turns on them. Today, I’m sharing some of the moments of betrayal that stuck with me the most. Doesn’t matter if the characters are good or bad, any break in trust is considered for this series. I hope you enjoy and let me know which betrayals stuck with you the most! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

When The Droogs Betrayed Alex – A Clockwork Orange

Alexander DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell) was the sadistic leader of a gang of droogs who terrorized and caused suffering to everyone they came across. After a night of raping and pillaging, the droogs decided it was time for a change in leadership. Alex, not wanting to relinquish control, attacked and humiliated two of the droogs in an act of dominance. When Alex believed everything was back to normal, the droogs told him about an opportunity to rob a lonely rich woman. The robbery went horribly wrong as Alex fatally injured the woman. As he ran out of her house, they surprised him by smashing a milk bottle over his face, preventing him from running away when police arrived. That act changed everything. Alex went to prison for 4 years and the two droogs became police officers themselves, eager to terrorize Alex as soon as they saw him again. These were despicable characters so it’s no surprise that they eventually turned on each other.

When Frank Betrayed Julia – Hellraiser

Since they first met, Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman) had his brother, Larry’s wife, Julia (Clare Higgins) wrapped around his finger. They had a passionate affair ever since her engagement. After Frank just disappeared, Julia and Larry (Andrew Robinson) moved into the home that Frank was squatting in. What they didn’t know was that Frank was pulled into a world filled with pleasure and pain and when he came into contact with a little blood, he was able to escape from that world. Now a skinless and grotesque figure, Frank turned to Julia for help. She brought strange men into the house and killed them so Frank could absorb them and fully regenerate. She even let Frank steal Larry’s skin to hide from the world that he escaped from. When Larry’s daughter, Kirsty (Ashley Laurence) was the final loose end, Julia held her while Frank held the knife. However, he stabbed Julia with no remorse. She did everything she could so they’d be together, just for Frank to kill her without hesitation.

When Evelyn Betrayed Donald – House On Haunted Hill

All Evelyn Price (Famke Janssen) wanted in life was her husband Stephen (Geoffrey Rush) to die so she could bask in his wealth. When she saw a program on an abandoned insane asylum, she thought of the perfect plan with her lover, Donald (Peter Gallagher). For Evelyn’s birthday, a group of strangers were invited to play a game of bravery. Anyone who survived the night would be greatly rewarded. It didn’t take long for Evelyn and Donald to put their own plan into action. They faked Evelyn’s death and of course, everyone blamed Stephen. She was hoping that someone would be scared enough to shoot Stephen if they thought he was a crazed killer. Even with everyone scared, Evelyn felt they weren’t doing enough to properly frame him. So, she decided to add to the body count… by stabbing and decapitating Donald. That moment really showed she had nothing but money and resentment driving her. Not even her own partner in crime was safe.

When Marlow Betrayed The Stranger – 30 Days Of Night

For 30 straight days, the small town of Barrow, Alaska endured complete darkness with no sunlight. Seeing the perfect untapped feeding ground, the head of his vampire clan, Marlow (Danny Huston) approached a human stranger (Ben Foster) with an offer: if he made sure no one could escape the town, he’d turn him into one of them and honor him. The stranger held up his end of the deal savagely. He tore apart the insides of a helicopter, burned every phone he could get his hands on, and even brutally butchered all of the sled dogs. The town was completely cut off and ripe for the picking. When Marlow approached the stranger again, the stranger thought he was going to get everything he hoped for. What he got instead were condescending words he didn’t understand and a snapped neck. That’s why you don’t make deals with beings who only see you as food and/or a loose end.

When Ana Betrayed Katie – I Spit On Your Grave 2

Katie Carter (Jemma Dallender) was an aspiring model who had a lot of trouble getting her career off the ground. She thought her luck finally changed when she came across an ad offering free photo shoots. There, she met three skeevy brothers, Ivan (Joe Absolom), Nicolay (Aleksander Aleksiev), and Georgy (Yavor Baharov) Patov. Georgy followed her home after, and that night he raped her and killed her neighbor who was trying to help her. He called his brothers and they drugged Katie and took her to their home in Bulgaria. She was able to outsmart them and escape to the police. There, she met Ana (Mary Stockley), a woman who ran a shelter for abused girls. She took Katie to her home… where she lived with her three sons. Because of Ana, Katie suffered even more at the hands of the men around her. Ana was a truly despicable person who took advantage of the trust of a girl who just wanted to go back home.
