A while back, I shared some of my favorite horror movie prequels. I’m kind of having a chill day today, so I just wanted to share some of my favorite horror movie sequels! I debated including any sequel after the first film, but for this article, I’m just discussing the second installments. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite horror movie sequel!
Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A group of tourists arrives in Burkittsville, Maryland after seeing The Blair Witch Project to explore the mythology and phenomenon, only to come face to face with their own neuroses and possibly the witch herself.
The Blair Witch Project is one of my all-time favorite found footage films, and I thoroughly enjoy this meta-sequel. I love how they set it up to where we truly didn’t know what was really happening and what was all in the characters’ minds. I also loved the debate of group hysteria or supernatural influence. It certainly had a different tone than its predecessor, but that definitely didn’t make me like it any less. Also, Jeffrey Donovan’s overacting is a major plus for me. This is one I can throw on at any time and never get sick of.
American Psycho II: All American Girl
Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A girl named Rachael Newman (Mila Kunis) has developed a taste for murder and will stop at nothing to become a college professor’s assistant.
The first American Psycho film is undoubtedly a classic and deservedly so. However, I watched it a couple of times, and I just couldn’t get into it. This one was different for me. I just loved that Rachael was so obsessed with joining the FBI and hunting down serial killers, that she started killing people herself and she became the very thing she wanted to stop. It just made for a much more interesting movie for me. It’s not a perfect movie, but it will always be one of my favorites!
Final Destination 2

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): Death is stalking Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) and multiple survivors of a deadly highway accident.
One of the best things about this film is that it was the one in the whole franchise that still scares people to this day. People still go on planes, they still drive over bridges, they still ride roller coasters, they still dine at tall restaurants, they still watch Nascar races, but not a SINGLE soul would ever drive behind a log truck if they could help it! I also love that they had to up the stakes from the first film, and they accomplished that by making Death’s list backwards. It had some of the most creative and shocking deaths and to me, it really set the bar for the rest of the installments.
See No Evil 2
Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): An undertaker’s birthday party is interrupted when Jacob Goodnight (Glenn Jacobs) rises from the dead and proceeds to terrorize her and her friends.
I’ll admit I like this sequel so much more than the first film. The first film had one of those a**holes you absolutely hate who’s suddenly the hero in the end, and you’re supposed to root for them. This one had actually likable characters who I found myself really rooting for. Sure, they changed some things from the first film, but I really didn’t miss them here. This sequel brought the blood, the brutality, and even a few laughs. Plus, it’s just always great seeing my favorite Scream Queens, Danielle Harris (Amy) and Katharine Isabelle (Tamara)! I know I may be alone here, but I think the story of Jacob Goodnight was put into the right hands here.
Smile 2
Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): About to embark on a world tour, global pop sensation, Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her past.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t expecting to absolutely fall in love with the first Smile film. It was such a wonderful and terrifying surprise. Since then, I had high hopes for the sequel. It not only met my expectations, it greatly exceeded them! Horror films centered around dancing are some of my favorites. I think adding the pressures of fame and performing was a wonderful element for an entity already centered around pain and trauma. Naomi Scott was amazing in this film, her performance really made it unforgettable. Although I really love the first film, I find myself throwing this one on way more often.
