I can’t believe I forgot it was Women In Horror Month!! I’m so sorry I haven’t gotten anything out in celebration of it yet. It’s time for another installment of rating horror characters with the same name. In celebration of Women In Horror Month, I picked the name Elizabeth for this round, and all its variations (Lizzy, Liz, Betty, Beth, etc.) Reminder: I’m rating the characters themselves, NOT the actresses who played them or their performances. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite horror movie Elizabeth! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)
Beth O’Brien – The Descent

My Rating: 10/10
Beth O’Brien (Alex Reid) was the best friend of Sarah Carter (Shauna Macdonald). After Sarah tragically lost her husband and daughter, she, Beth, and their friends took a caving expedition in order to find themselves and each other again. I just LOVE Beth! She was funny and she was a good friend. I don’t want to hear anyone talking about her hiding Sarah’s husband’s affair with their friend, Juno (Natalie Mendoza). She kept the secret to protect Sarah, not Juno! She was a very intelligent and no-nonsense character who helped Sarah as much as she could.
Beth Salinger – Hostel: Part II
My Rating: 10/10
Beth Salinger (Lauren German) was an art student living and studying in Rome with her friends, Whitney (Bijou Phillips) and Lorna (Heather Matarazzo). While on their travels, they heard of an amazing spa in Slovakia. What they didn’t realize was that they were being targeted by an organization that charged wealthy sadists to torture and kill tourists. Beth is just one of my all-time favorite people! She was highly underestimated and she used every advantage she had to get herself out of that situation. It was unfortunately too late for her to save her friends, but she avenged them in one of the most bada** ways.
Betty – Resident Evil: Extinction

My Rating: 9/10
After a zombie apocalypse destroyed the earth and left it a barren wasteland, a small group of survivors traveled through the desert in search of sanctuary. Betty (Ashanti) was a nurse in the convoy, helping everyone with her medical expertise. She was smart and she kept a positive attitude through it all. I’m docking a point from her because she checked her boyfriend for injuries, but she clearly didn’t check him thoroughly enough to notice the zombie bite mark on his chest. I also thought about docking a point for closing herself inside the bus and letting the crows kill her when she had plenty of time to get off the bus and close the door behind her.
Zee – You’re Next

My Rating: 1/10
Zee (Wendy Glenn) was a devious beauty who planned something vile with her boyfriend, Felix (Nicholas Tucci). Wanting their family’s inheritance, Felix and his brother, Crispian (AJ Bowen) paid three men to kill their parents, brother, and sister in order to have the fortune all to themselves. Zee was pretty despicable. She not only agreed to help out in this plan, but she had a little too much fun with it. After Felix’s mother was killed, she wanted to have sex with him next to her dead body. That brought my rating WAY down! She was cunning and sly, but she was messed up!
Ranger Liz – Cocaine Bear

My Rating: 8/10
Ranger Liz (Margo Martindale) was the park ranger in the Chattahoochie National Forest in Georgia. After a drug drop went wrong, a black bear in the forest consumed a massive amount of cocaine and went on a bloodthirsty rampage. Ranger Liz was one of the victims caught in the crossfire. I honestly love her. She was bada** and she had attitude! I dropped a few points because when she heard that a little girl was lost in the forest, she didn’t really seem to care and she just cared about the girl’s mother trekking through the woods with her crush. No one likes a pick-me, Liz!
