Horror Movie Animal Deaths That Tore Me Apart – Part 1

The horror genre can contain cruel and brutal scenes, especially towards animals. Before, I shared some character deaths that tore me apart. Today, I’m sharing part 1 of the animal deaths in the horror genre that tore me apart. These are some of the deaths that almost made it too difficult for me to finish the films. (WARNING: CONTAINS SENSITIVE MATERIAL AND MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)

Invisible Dog – Hollow Man

Even though the dog was invisible, his death was still graphic and devastating. Sebastian Caine (Kevin Bacon) was feeling the effects of the serum that made him invisible and he was starting to lose his mind. When one of the other experiments, an innocent little puppy, wouldn’t stop barking around him, Caine absolutely lost it. He took the dog out of the cage and savagely beat him against the wall. It’s a very difficult scene to see and listen to.

Horse – The Ring

The most infuriating thing about this one was that the horse’s death seemed like it could’ve been easily preventable. Rachel (Naomi Watts) was on a ferry headed to an island. There, she saw a horse minding its business and decided to try and pet it. The horse sensed the evil curse put on Rachel and it completely freaked out and escaped from its trailer. The horse then jumped off the ferry and hit the water. The current pulled the horse under the ferry, and Rachel and the horse’s owner waited in anticipation. We don’t see the death upfront, but we do see a lot of blood, and we hear the horse’s pained cries and the owner’s haunting scream.

Cat – The Collector

This poor creature was put through hell before its death! As the Collector (Juan Fernández) booby trapped the entire house and professional thief, Arkin (Josh Stewart) was trying to escape without being noticed, he stumbled into a room where there was an acid-like substance all over the floor. Unfortunately, that’s the room the cat got stuck in. As the cat cried out and tried to get out of the acid, Arkin was desperate to keep quiet, so he ripped the cat off the floor and tossed him to the nearest window. Think the cat’s safe? Nope! He then got chopped in half by a falling blade.

Tank – V/H/S 2

This one was really painful to watch. V/H/S 2 is, of course, a found footage film. This segment happens completely in Tank’s point of view because the camera was tied to him. At the end of the segment, Tank’s owners were abducted by aliens and as they were getting lifted onto the spaceship, Tank slipped out of his owner’s arm and fell to the ground. Of course, the camera was facing poor Tank, who was now a beaten and broken mess. He didn’t die right away and we are subjected to his whimpers and his bloody face. It was so devastating and tear-jerking.

Cat – Capture Kill Release

This scene was such a tense moment! Jen (Jennifer Fraser) wanted her husband, Farhang (Farhang Ghajar) to prove to her that he was ready to kill a man with her. So, she brought home a cat and asked him to kill it. When he refused and tried to convince her to let it go, she decided to drown it herself. It was such a drawn-out and horrifying death scene! It made you think that maybe she wouldn’t do it, but proved that Jen was merciless and ready to kill.
