Horror Movie Characters Who Had Final Girl/Final Guy Potential – Part 2

I’m back with part 2 of horror movie characters who I believe had the potential to be final girls and final guys! These are the characters who proved they had the drive to survive whatever was threatening them, but for one reason or another, they didn’t make it. I hope you enjoy and let me know who you feel had the potential to be final girls/guys! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)

Rain Ocampo – Resident Evil

Rain (Michelle Rodriguez) was a member of the Umbrella special forces commando unit who was sent into The Hive to find out what caused the security system to kill all the workers inside. After the security system was shut down, all the infected zombies were set free to attack. Rain was one of the toughest characters I’ve seen in a zombie film. She suffered bite after bite after bite, and refused to give up. Then, she selflessly offered her head when it was seemingly the only way for the rest of the group to escape. She was a fighter to the very end and she deserved to survive.

Sergeant Doyle – 28 Weeks Later

This was probably one of the first fictional deaths that genuinely shocked me. Doyle (Jeremy Renner) was a US Army sniper stationed in London six months after the rage virus outbreak. When the virus returned and chaos ensued, Doyle abandoned his post to help evacuate 2 children. He was smart, tough, and he really cared about others. His sacrifice was noble but I really thought he was going to make it to the end.

Whitney – Hostel: Part II

Whitney (Bijou Phillips) was a college student traveling with her 2 friends when they were talked into going to an “amazing” Slovakian spa. There, rich sadists paid to torture and kill them among others. Now Whitney may just seem like the typical horror movie mean girl, but I think that showed how much fight she had in her. She was so close to escaping from captivity. It takes a lot of power to bite a piece of someone’s nose off, but she did it with no hesitation. She had that fight AND flight instinct and I believe she would’ve survived it there weren’t too many cards stacked against her.

Kaylie Russell – Oculus

Kaylie (Karen Gillan) was one of the many victims whose lives were ruined by a haunted mirror. After losing her parents, she dedicated a good chunk of her life to prove the spirits in the mirror were the ones responsible. Kaylie was a very intelligent and devoted character. The amount of research and preparation she did to defeat this thing was absolutely astonishing. She knew exactly what she was getting into and she wasn’t afraid to face her demons. She did her best and she was so close to finding closure and peace. I really wish she got it.

Dany Wilkins – The Belko Experiment

Dany (Melonie Diaz) believed her first day at Belko Industries would be just a typical day. It all came crashing down when she and her co-workers became trapped in the building and forced to kill each other. I really thought she had what it took to make it to the end. She was able to hide and maneuver around everyone. She saved some people from being killed in a lineup, and when she had to fight, she had no problem. If it weren’t for one fatal mistake, she could’ve possibly survived.
