My Favorite Horror Movie Moments – Part 3

Welcome to Day 9 of Spooky Season!! Back in 2019, I shared part 1 and part 2 of my overall favorite horror movie moments. I never got around to continuing the series… until now! These moments became my favorites through shock value, execution, nostalgia, and memorability. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite horror movie moments! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Re-animating The Big Boy – Re-Animator

Crazed doctor who was obsessed with bringing the dead back to life, Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) moved in with his classmate, Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott). There, he told Dan all about the serum he created that reanimated corpses after he started experimenting in their basement. Deciding to help him with his experiments, Dan and Herbert broke into the morgue where they study and looked for the perfect specimen. Meanwhile, Dan’s girlfriend’s father followed them and tried to see what they were up to. After injecting the serum in a large dead man, the man sat up screaming and started wreaking havoc and breaking bones. This moment is nostalgic for me because I saw the scene WAY before I saw the entirety of the film. It wasn’t anything like what I saw at the time, it was so shocking and unforgettable.

Only The Aftermaths – Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer

Henry Lee Lucas (Michael Rooker) was a notorious serial killer who killed at least 3 people and falsely confessed to committing over 600 murders. His “handiwork” was immortalized in film in the form of Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer. For some of the movie, we hear him kill a number of women but we only see the aftermath of their murders. I think that it was such a unique way of showing these deaths. We can only hear the carnage and we can only imagine how it went down. They are very depraved images and I think the whole thing was very well put together.

Killing Two Cops With One Hand – Idle Hands

Being a loafer most of his life, Anton Tobias (Devon Sawa) realized that all of the murders happening around town were done by his own hand. Possessed by an evil spirit, his hand slaughtered his parents, his best friends, and many others. Trying desperately to tame the evil, he attempted to keep his hands busy by knitting. It seemed to be working, but then two cops found him sitting with his now undead friends and tried to arrest him. Anton wanted to be arrested so he didn’t hurt anyone else, but his hand had other ideas. It stabbed one of the cops with a big knitting needle, then used his taser-gun to electrocute the other cop’s face. Dragula by Rob Zombie playing in the background made the scene so epic. Plus I love that one of the cops, Sean Whalen was killed to a Rob Zombie song here, then later got killed in a few of Rob Zombie’s movies.

Cradle Falls, Unholy Walls – Ghost Ship

The Antonia Graza was an Italian ocean liner filled with wealthy and elite passengers. It disappeared in 1962 and reappeared in 2002. A salvage crew was approached by a young man, Jack Ferriman (Desmond Harrington) who discovered it. When they explore the ship, they find large crates filled with gold bricks and lots of dead bodies. One of the crew members, Epps (Julianna Margulies) started seeing a little girl ghost, Katie (Emily Browning), who told her that they were all in danger. She was right as the crew members started dropping like flies at the hands of the spirits on board. When they were alone, Katie took Epps back to where it all began. The gold was brought on board from a sinking ship and the man who was rescued with the gold composed an absolute massacre. From guns, to poison, to razors, to wires, we are subjected to so many kills. It’s brutal, bloody, and one of my favorite flashbacks/montages.

Lighter Than Air – Night Of The Demons (2009)

Desperate to earn money, Angela (Shannon Elizabeth) decided to host a Halloween party at an abandoned mansion. After the party was crashed by some police officers, Angela and a few of her friends ended up locked in overnight. While looking for a bag of drugs stashed in the basement, the group came across a bunch of skeletons, one of which ended up biting Angela on the finger. The bite ended up causing Angela’s possession and the demon inside her realized It had the exact amount of victims It needed to unleash Hell on Earth. One of Angela’s new victims was her very drunk friend Suzanne (Bobbi Sue Luther). While everyone went their separate ways, Angela and Suzanne shared a slow dance together. Everything seemed fine until Suzanne realized they were no longer touching the ground. I absolutely love the set-up of the scene, complimented by the music. I think it also led to a great and shocking reveal.
