We’ve now reached Day 10 of Spooky Season!! Today, I wanted to share part 3 of what I believe to be the most underrated performances in the horror genre! These performances were underrated either because another performance overshadowed it or the film itself is under the radar. I hope you enjoy and let me know a performance in the horror genre you feel deserves more love!
Marian Waldman as Mrs. Mac – Black Christmas (1974)
Mrs. Mac was the house mother of the sorority house, Pi Kappa Sigma. There, all the girls were being taunted by an obscene caller who they didn’t know was lurking in the attic of the house. Mrs. Mac was one of the best aspects of Black Christmas. Waldman’s performance is one of the reasons I adore this film so much. She was a walking mood throughout the whole film and her ability to put on this “nice woman” persona in front of everyone around her, before letting her hilarious temper out was superb.
Richard Roxburgh as Count Dracula – Van Helsing

Famous monster hunter, Van Helsing was sent to Transylvania to slay his greatest adversary of all, Count Vladislaus Dracula. There have been many renditions of the Dracula story and character for many decades. I believe Roxburgh’s performance as the killer vampire is one of the most undervalued. He gave us what was best about the character and added his own personality to it. He was powerful, dramatic, and fierce. If I ever made a list of my favorite Draculas, he’d definitely be in my top 5.
Angela Trimbur as Tina – The Final Girls

After a group of friends ended up trapped in a 1980s camp slasher flick, they needed to figure out how to save themselves before they join the flick’s counselors in the body count. Among those counselors was Tina, the spunky, slutty, energetic beauty. Angela Trimbur really put her all into this role. She was so spry and hilarious. I feel she really doesn’t get the praise she deserves, even from fans of this movie. Her whole performance was perfect from start to her finish!
Pete Davidson as David – Bodies Bodies Bodies

Anticipating a massive hurricane, David decided to have all of his friends over to his place to party while weathering out the storm. While holed up, the group decided to play a murder mystery game, with disastrous results. I have to give Davidson props for his performance in this film. He brought a very dislikable essence to his character that reminded me of toxic people I know in real life. His performance hit close to home for me and the fact that he was capable of getting a reaction out of me is undoubtedly commendable. He definitely deserves more credit as an actor, and I hope he does more horror films in the future.
