Today’s article is going to be a little different. One random fact about me: I absolutely LOVE song covers! I love when someone takes an already banger of a song and give their own take on it. I guess it’s the same way with movies for me. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite song covers! I’m always looking for music recommendations!
The Sound Of Silence – Disturbed
Original Performer: Simon & Garfunkel
The original song was already beautifully performed with a melancholic sense of dread. In my opinion, Disturbed took it to an entirely new level. The music was so different than the band’s usual hard rock sound, and even David Draiman’s voice was contrasting and amazing. This cover was so unique and unforgettable.
Cry Little Sister – Aiden
Original Performer: Gerard McMahon
For The Lost Boys, Gerard created the perfect theme. For the sequels, the song needed to be modernized and I believe Aiden did it perfectly! I know it’s practically a sin to say this but I love this cover more, and I listen to it much more often. It has just my kind of vibe.
Wish You Were Dead – Lucy Deakin
Original Performer: t.A.T.u.
I know it’s debatable to consider this an official cover of the song All The Things She Said. The only similarity is the music of the chorus. The lyrics and the music on the verses are completely different. However, I think it’s similar enough, the vibe is still there and I still really enjoy listening to this rendition.
Lovely – Lauren Babic & Seraphim
Original Performer: Billie Eilish & Khalid
The original song was such a beautiful duet with Billie and Khalid. However, have you ever had a song that was unable to scratch that itch that your brain needed? Well, with its amplified music and intense vocals between Lauren and Seraphim, this cover successfully give me that scratch that my brain desperately needed.
Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) – Marilyn Manson
Original Performer: Eurythmics
Eurythmics’ version of this song is a great, upbeat, and catchy tune. Marilyn Manson took the lyrics and gave us an incredibly dark and striking cover. The best part is that they are so contrasting, that whatever mood you are in at any time, either version can work for you!
Sweet Child o’ Mine – Taken By Trees
Original Performer: Guns N’ Roses
I have to confess that I heard the cover of this song LONG before I heard the original version. The original is a classic ‘80s rock anthem that everyone loves. The cover’s much softer and more melancholic tone is what made me fall in love with it, especially since it was paired with one of my favorite horror movies, The Last House On The Left!
I’ll Make A Man Out Of You – Peyton Parrish
Original Performer: Donny Osmond
I used to love Mulan when I was a kid and I’ll admit I still listen to the movie’s version of this song from time to time. However, in my opinion, Peyton created an epic warrior song with his version. Donny’s version was a good motivator for the characters. Peyton’s version is a GREAT motivator for me!
Impossible – I Am King
Original Performer: Shontelle
This was another song that I didn’t realize was a cover for the longest time. In fact, I just listened to Shontelle’s version today. Her voice is so beautiful and I can see how this song became a hit. However, with I Am King’s intense vocals and hyped-up music, I have to say that the cover holds a special place in my heart.
