Hello, everyone! I hope you all haven’t forgotten about me! I’m very sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been in the middle of moving and getting back to my regular routine took a while. Now, I’m back! A while back, I shared an article showcasing some of the worst things Doug did on The King Of Queens. Since I started watching the show again, I figured it was time to shine a light on the family patriarch, Arthur Spooner. So, here’s part 1 of the worst things Arthur Spooner has ever done! I hope you enjoy!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)
When He Got Gloria Fired On Purpose – Four Play

After having his advice constantly ignored, Arthur (Jerry Stiller) turned to an employee at his favorite coffee shop, Gloria (Amy Stiller). After she said that he gave great advice and asked him for his opinion again, Arthur finally felt validated. When her co-worker asked him for advice as well, he spilled the beans to Arthur that Gloria was succeeding, not by listening to him, but by doing the exact opposite of what he told her to do. After knowing the truth, when Gloria asked him if she should ask for a raise, Arthur told her not to, knowing full well she would end up demanding one and possibly end up fired. He messed with a poor woman’s livelihood all because his feelings were hurt. He didn’t even consider the fact that his advice was indeed working, just not the way he intended!
When He Stole Spence’s Job From Him – Home Cheapo

After losing the job he loved and spent years doing, Spence (Patton Oswalt) needed to find a new job fast before his unemployment ended. He found a job he felt he would be perfect for and Arthur offered to help coach him for the interview. Arthur initially wanted to help Spence to live vicariously through him, but somewhere down the line, he realized he could interview for the job as well. Using his own twisted advice, Arthur used fake credentials and badmouthed Spence pretty severely to steal the job from him. He didn’t even last long at that job after they did a background check, so he screwed over his good friend for a job he couldn’t keep for a day.
When He Gave Away Doug And Carrie’s Things – Van, Go

While Doug (Kevin James) and Carrie (Leah Remini) were out for the day, Arthur and his friend, George (Gerry Black) decided to hold a casino party at the house to pay for a senior cruise they wanted to go on. They did pretty well at the start, cleaning out their friends’ pockets. When one of their friends, Josephine (Norma Michaels) didn’t start gambling right away, Arthur encouraged her, hoping to use her losses to pay for an extra cruise room. What they didn’t anticipate was that Josephine had a hell of a lucky streak. Arthur and George not only lost what they already won, but they ended up owing all of those who rode on Josephine’s hot streak. George ended up bailing, leaving Arthur to pay the winners. With no money to give, Arthur resorted to giving away Doug and Carrie’s things, including Doug’s IPS uniform and their kitchen table. This certainly wasn’t the only time he gave away their things to settle a gambling debt. Doug and Carrie paid for Arthur’s mistakes in so many ways.
When He Pinned His Affair On Carl – Surprise Artie

Wanting to give Arthur something special for his birthday, Doug and Carrie planned a surprise party with all of his friends. While Doug had him out of the house, Carrie set everything up and the guests arrived. Among those guests were some of Arthur’s oldest friends, Irv (Harold Gould) and Carl (Orson Bean). Irv and Carl were longtime rivals because Irv was absolutely certain that Carl slept with his wife. As getting Arthur back to the house proved difficult, the duo had plenty of time to get their sides of the story. After some back and forth, they realized that Arthur was actually the one who slept with Irv’s wife and he framed Carl for it all those years ago. Arthur had done some really terrible things in his life, but he destroyed multiple relationships and friendships for many years with this betrayal.
When He Deliberately Hid Important Things From Carrie – Lyin’ Hearted

While waiting for his angioplasty procedure, Arthur asked Doug and Carrie to bring some of his personal items to the hospital. As they were digging into his closet, they came across a box of things they’ve never seen before. One of the things they found was an acceptance letter to Florida State for Carrie. Arthur wrote a pros and cons list on the back for whether or not to tell her about the letter. Furious, Carrie later gave Arthur the chance to confess what he did. Instead, he told her all about how he never told her that the boy she loved for three years called her a long time ago. For very selfish reasons, Arthur screwed up Carrie’s potential career opportunities AND her potential relationships. Plus, all of this came to light at a time where she was supposed to be worried sick about him, so she couldn’t even express her very valid frustrations properly!
