For a long time, I’ve been wanting to check out the Scream Queens reality competition show, where 10 women show off their acting chops to land a role in Saw VI. Even though I’ve seen Saw VI about 15 times and already know who won the role, I was still curious about this show. So, I finally ran through the first season, and I gotta say I was pretty entertained! Today, I decided to write all of my thoughts down while they were still fresh(ish) in my head. I originally wanted to post it all on my socials, but the word limit is SO annoying, so instead, I’m closing out September with a post about all the thoughts I had while watching the first season of Scream Queens! • My first thought is how I just LOVE this concept! A chance for rising stars to land a role in a major horror franchise. I love that the challenges included acting lessons and fake movie scenes to act in to help them understand what they’re getting into. It’s a real shame that they ended the show when the Saw franchise stopped. It would be really cool if they brought it back for other horror franchises. Hell, there’s a new Saw movie possibly in the works. Bring this back!

• I have to say that after seeing her performance in Saw VI, I NEVER would’ve guessed that Tanedra didn’t have a lot of acting experience prior. That really surprised me when I watched this show. I also found it funny that the girl who didn’t take acting classes ended up winning the role based on pure talent. Some of the contestants who boasted about taking those acting classes should’ve asked for their money back. Even if I didn’t watch Saw VI before this show, I would’ve definitely predicted her winning the whole thing.

• It’s really crazy how people really said all the bigoted stuff they wanted to back in the day. There were some racist, homophobic, AND antisemitic comments said in this show. I’m really glad those girls didn’t win. Like, you’re telling me Jessica was able to call Sarah ugly because she was Jewish and had a large nose, and weeks later, they acted in a scene together like nothing happened? When that comment left her mouth, my jaw literally DROPPED. If I was a judge, I would’ve kicked her off for that comment alone.

• Now, onto Lina and Michelle. They both just had to make racist and homophobic comments that just really ticked me off. It’d be one thing if they just said they weren’t comfortable kissing another woman. There’s nothing wrong with that! You should never be forced to kiss someone you’re not comfortable with kissing. But, they just had to keep talking about how it’s “not natural” and acting like women kissing is so gross. Also, I don’t buy for a second that Michelle had any lesbian friends, if she does, I feel bad for them.

• Then, because Tanedra was the only black contestant on the show, these two just went at her for no reason other than racist intentions. Lina just called her ghetto, among other things, and she acted like it was no big deal. It doesn’t surprise me that she’s worked with Adam Sandler in the past. Then, during the Jekyll and Hyde acting lesson, Michelle just reduced Tanedra to some stereotype. She saw how the exercise was SUPPOSED to be done when she watched Lindsay and Angela do it, and she still plead ignorance, acting like she misunderstood the assignment. I don’t buy it one bit, and I don’t blame Tanedra for responding the way she did, because she NEVER gave off the vibe that Michelle pictured in her head and acted out.

• Watching Sarah this whole time, it never clicked for me that she appeared in one of my favorite horror films. Hatchet II is one of my go-to horror films, and I didn’t realize until I finished this season that she was one of the girls in Shapiro’s video collection. That just blew my mind when I realized I’ve seen her before!

• So, for Michelle and Tanedra’s final challenge, they had Jigsaw speak to them, except I noticed it wasn’t Tobin Bell’s voice. Since this was a legitimate challenge affiliated with the Saw franchise, why wouldn’t Tobin provide the voice for Jigsaw here? That just seemed odd to me. However, I LOVE that their final scene was from my favorite Saw film, Saw III! That’s definitely one of the scenes I think about the most.
