We’ve finally reached Day 14 of Spooky Season!! Today is dedicated to some of the actors who contributed to the greatness of the horror genre. These are some of the performances in horror films that I don’t think get NEARLY enough credit, whether the films themselves went under the radar, or the performances were overshadowed by others. I hope you enjoy and let me know the horror performances you feel should be in this series!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)
Vanessa Williams as Ann-Marie McCoy – Candyman
Anne-Marie McCoy was a struggling mother who was just trying to give her baby a good life. Her world completely fell apart when a vengeful spirit that haunted the grounds of her building took her baby from her. Vanessa’s meltdown was what made me add her to this series. Her dog was butchered and her baby was gone, and she completely let her agony out over his empty crib. She is one of those actresses where she can perform with just her eyes. We see the loss and we see the misery. She was a strong character, but even the strongest people can hit their breaking point.
Terrence ‘T.C.’ Carson as Eugene Dix – Final Destination 2

Eugene Dix was a teacher who escaped Death after a woman with a premonition saved him and others from a huge and deadly pile-up. After the pile-up, they soon realized that Death was coming after them one by one. Eugene started out as the cool guy skeptic who refused to believe that he was on Death’s list, but became extremely humbled in such a terrifying way. Terrence did an amazing job at completely falling apart after witnessing someone die so horrifically. His breakdown was so real and so raw. It was a perfect reaction to finding out a horrible fate awaits you at any time.
Cameron Crovetti as Elias – Goodnight Mommy (2022)

Elias and Lukas were twin boys visiting their mother at their old home. The longer they spent with her, the more they suspected that she wasn’t who she claimed to be. Cameron was just outstandingly heartbreaking in this film. By the end of the film, his emotions seemed so genuine. I felt so bad for his character and his performance is one of the main reasons his story hit me so hard. He was a scared little boy who tried to be brave, but his own mind couldn’t comprehend his own trauma, and he was believable every second!
Ingrid Torelli as Lilly D’Abo – Late Night With The Devil

After barely surviving a massacre of a cult, Lilly D’Abo became the subject of paranormal research after a demon was revealed to be living inside of her. After she and her caretaker were asked to appear on a late night talk show, Lilly’s demon decided it was the perfect opportunity to reveal itself to the world. This film gets a lot of praise, but I feel like Ingrid’s performance specifically doesn’t get enough. Her deadpan stare into our souls and her empty smile are so excellently creepy. She did a fantastic job at portraying an innocent girl in one moment, and a vile and terrifying menace the next.
