My Ranking Of The Stories In ‘Body Bags’

Welcome to Day 23 of Spooky Season!! I’m just a sucker for anthology horror films and I always felt that Body Bags was one of the most underrated anthology films. I’ve been wanting to do this article for quite a long time, but I never got around to it… until now! Today, I’m ranking all 4 segments in Body Bags. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite segment!! (POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!)

4. The Morgue

For the film’s wrap-around story, John Carpenter played a corpse pretending to be the Coroner, lounging around the morgue, and introducing each story with the bodies of various victims. Now, I absolutely love it when directors show up in their own films, it’s always fun to see. I just wish there was more here. First off, the way that the film is played on the streaming sites, the music is WAY too loud and Carpenter talked so low, you can barely hear what the Coroner is saying! Thank God for subtitles, because there is no way I could even understood his introductions. Plus, the whole thing is pretty forgettable. I did like when Tom Arnold and Tobe Hooper showed up at the end!

3. Eye

Eye follows Brent Matthews (Mark Hamill), a professional baseball player who lost his eye in a car accident. After getting a donor eye, Brent started to see and live the life of the psychopath it used to belong to. This one was okay, it just didn’t stay with me the way the other segments did. Although, I will say that Mark Hamill’s performance was so fantastic, that for the longest time, I didn’t realize that WAS Mark Hamill. Watching it again, the way that it was shot and the story had the vibes of a Tales From The Crypt episode. I don’t know why, but this was the one that was the least impactful. For a long time, I couldn’t even remember a good chunk of it, and that was even after watching it a couple of times. It wasn’t a terrible story, it just wasn’t memorable.

2. Hair

Hair follows Richard (Stacy Keach), a balding man who was desperate to have long and luscious hair again. When he heard about an experimental hair treatment facility, his dream quickly started turning into a nightmare. I really like how unique this story is! I really enjoy Stacy Keach’s performance, he made this segment very entertaining. I also love how it had genuinely comedic moments that I wasn’t expecting at all. This one would be my top choice, but it kind of loses me at the end. I don’t know what they could’ve changed to make it better, I just feel like there could’ve been more to it. I still think the makeup was fantastic and gnarly, very well done! Overall, it was very intriguing and very funny, I’ll always enjoy watching this one.

1. The Gas Station

The Gas Station follows Anne (Alex Datcher), a college student who’s starting her first night working at a gas station. As the night went on, Anne began to feel a sense of uneasiness that turned out to be completely justified. This is the main story that always makes me want to throw this film on. Admittedly, it is a bit of a slow burn and pacing is usually a make-or-break situation for me when it comes to films. However, I just love this story. I’ve never seen Robert Carradine in a role like this before, so it was a wonderful treat seeing something new. Plus, I thought it had a great love story that always stuck with me. Not to mention the great cameos by Wes Craven and Sam Raimi. It’s always great to see Wes, even if he plays a weirdo creep. This one will always be my favorite story!
