Welcome to Day 30 of Spooky Season!! We’re almost to the end! Today, I’m bringing you the latest installment of rating horror movie characters who share the same name! As always, I had the wheel pick a letter and this time, it landed on C. So for this round, I chose the name Catherine and all its variants (Kathy, Kate, Kat, etc. yeah I know some of these are Ks haha). As usual, I’m rating the characters themselves, NOT the actors who played them or their performances. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite horror movie Catherine!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)
Catherine Martin – The Silence Of The Lambs

My Rating: 10/10
Catherine Martin (Brooke Smith) was just a normal woman who was targeted by a psychopathic killer because of her weight. The killer, Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) kidnapped her and kept her in a well, determined to use her skin for his skin-suit. I really respect how tough and intelligent Catherine was in this situation. She was understandably freaked out, but she didn’t let that break her. She used what she was given to hatch a plan of escape. I love the way she just told Buffalo Bill off. She was also a very helpful person, but that unfortunately led to her kidnapping. She was definitely underestimated, and I’m really glad that she was rescued just in time.
Kat Jennings – Final Destination 2

My Rating: 9/10
On a seemingly normal day, Kat (Keegan Connor Tracy) was driving down a highway when a young woman stopped the line of cars, claiming that they were all going to die in a crash. After they were saved, the group started dying one by one in mysterious and horrific ways. I just can’t hate Kat. She has such an attitude the whole time, but I still really like her. She still did her best with her situation, and she was very funny. She never lost her important businesswoman attitude and I just loved it.
Kate Roberts – Scream 4
My Rating: 10/10
Kate Roberts (Mary McDonnell) lost her sister in a very gruesome way, and since then, her niece, Sidney (Neve Campbell) was hunted down by psychotic killers in Ghostface costumes for years. When Sidney returned to her hometown to promote her new book, Kate’s daughter, Jill (Emma Roberts) suddenly wanted the spotlight, so she decided to go on a killing spree of her own. I have absolutely no problems with Kate. No one really checked on her with everything she lost, but she had no resentment against Sidney. She still welcomed her into her home and helped her when they were being attacked. She really didn’t deserve to die, her biggest crime was having an attention-seeking psychopath for a daughter.
Kathy – The Monster

My Rating: 1/10
Kathy (Zoe Kazan) was an alcoholic and abusive mother. When she was driving her daughter, Lizzy (Ella Ballentine) to live with her dad, their car crashed in the middle of nowhere, and they found themselves hunted by a vicious monster in the woods. Addiction is an ugly thing, especially when you hurt your loved ones for it. She treated her daughter so horribly, and then she got on her case for being mentally repressed. She gets 1 point from me for trying to do the right thing in the end, but I can’t give her any more. She was verbally and physically abusive towards her daughter, and she put her own needs ahead of everything else most of the time.
Catherine – Texas Chainsaw Massacre

My Rating: 9/10
Catherine (Jessica Allain) was an investor who traveled with a group of influencers to the rundown town of Harlow, Texas. Excited to turn the place into a peaceful community, the group didn’t know that a madman who liked wearing faces and wielding chainsaws was about to disrupt that peace. Catherine was very sweet and helpful. I docked 1 point for one very specific reason. Instead of closing the bus doors when a decapitated head was thrown in there, she decided to just let the killer right in! I understand it could’ve been shock, but it still frustrates me every time I watch it!
