A while back, I read an article on ranker.com which discussed the best “I’m dead and I know it” moments in movies. It made me think about the moments in horror films where characters accepted their inevitable fates in the genre. It can be suicide, a sacrifice to save another, or just a moment when a character sees no other way out. In any way, shape, or form, if a character has accepted their fate, they’re in this series! (WARNING! MAY CONTAIN SENSITIVE MATERIAL!!) (MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!)
Blind Mag – Repo! The Genetic Opera

Blind Mag (Sarah Brightman) was a poor soul trapped under the thumb of business mogul, Rotti Largo (Paul Sorvino). He gave her new eyes and in return she had to work for GeneCo for the rest of her life. When she decided she’s had enough of GeneCo and the Largo family, she announced her retirement, much to Largo’s dismay. She knew that after her final performance, she would be killed and her eyes would be taken back by the Repo Man (Anthony Head). She decided that her final performance would be a truly unforgettable one. As she sang her final song, she gouged her eyes out herself in front of her audience, not giving Largo the satisfaction of killing her away from the public. She went out on her own terms and freed herself from Largo’s tyranny.
Jacob Fuller – From Dusk Till Dawn

All Jacob Fuller (Harvey Keitel) wanted to do was take a simple trip with his family. However, they ended up at the wrong motel at the wrong time. He and his kids were taken hostage by Seth (George Clooney) and Richard Gecko (Quentin Tarantino), two criminal brothers trying to flee the country. After succeeding in escaping to Mexico, the brothers took them to an exclusive bar filled with booze and babes. Things soon took a turn for the worst when the group realized that all the bar’s employees were brutal, blood-sucking vampires. They all put up a good fight but unfortunately, Jacob was bit during a surprise attack. With Seth, Jacob, and Jacob’s kids cornered, they found all the artillery they needed. Jacob knew it was too late to save himself but he fought like hell to protect his kids as long as he could!
Josh – Saw VI

After creating an insurance policy that basically chooses who gets coverage and lives and who doesn’t and dies, William Easton (Peter Outerbridge) was forced to choose who of his colleagues lived and who died through a series of Jigsaw’s (Tobin Bell) tests. For his last game, six of his employees are chained to a carousel with a gun pointed at them. Easton was only allowed to save 2 while the rest perished. When he saved 2 women, there was one employee left, Josh (Shawn Mathieson), to take the final bullet. In the last seconds of his life, Josh really let Easton have it! He didn’t even let Easton look away as the gun shot him. He made Easton watch him die because of the choice he made.
Nancy – The Final Girls
Three years after tragically losing her mother, Max Cartwright (Taissa Farmiga) ended up getting sucked into the slasher movie her mother starred in in the 1980s. While in the movie, she met her mother’s character, Nancy (Malin Akerman), and Max saw an opportunity to fix her past. Not wanting to lose her mother a second time, Max tried everything she could to save Nancy from the movie’s killer, Billy Murphy (Daniel Norris). She believed she had to keep Nancy alive until the end of the movie, but unfortunately, the main rule was there could only be one final girl. With Max dying, Nancy realized the only way to save her was to sacrifice herself so Max could be the last one standing. Nancy gave Max the opportunity to say a proper goodbye and danced her last dance to their song until Billy killed her.
Dana And Marty – The Cabin In The Woods

College friends Dana (Kristen Connolly) and Marty (Fran Kranz) were 2 among many young victims thrown into a ritualistic sacrifice. After the rest of their group got brutally slaughtered, Marty and Dana was believed to be as good as dead. However, Marty was highly underestimated. He not only figured out his friends’ murders were caused by an underground facility, he and Dana were able to take control and release every monster. After the monsters completely massacre the facility, they finally learned the truth that if they didn’t die that very night, the ancient Gods that they’re supposed to be sacrificed to would rise and end the world. After being the last ones standing, Marty and Dana decided to let the ancient ones rise. They sat down and lit one last joint as the world crumbled around them and the ancient ones brought on a new apocalypse.
