I’m back with part 6 of the best heroine moments in horror films! I felt bad about not properly celebrating Women In Horror Month this year. Then I realized I don’t have to JUST celebrate women in the horror genre in March, I can do it whenever I want. Today, I’m sharing some of the best moments regarding some of my favorite horror movie heroines. I hope you enjoy and let me know which heroine moments you feel should be in this series!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)
When Nancy Set The Traps – A Nightmare On Elm Street

Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) was a typical teenager who used to have typical teenager problems. Her whole world collapsed after her best friend, Tina (Amanda Wyss) was butchered in her sleep, and the evil spirit responsible for it, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) was targeting her and her other friends as well. With nobody believing she was in danger, it was up to Nancy to stop Freddy. She tried to keep her boyfriend alive, but Freddy got him too, and she was alone. Reading up on survival, Nancy concocted a plan to stop him. First, using what she learned, she rigged various parts of her house, including hanging up a sledgehammer outside of her door. Then, she set a timer and fell asleep. She was able to successfully pull Freddy out of the dream world and use her traps to lure him to the basement where she could set him on fire. On almost zero sleep, Nancy was still able to plan, execute, and avenge her friends.
When Trish Tried To Offer Herself To The Creeper – Jeepers Creepers
Trish Jenner (Gina Philips) and her brother, Darry (Justin Long) were on their way home for spring break. Taking the backroads home, they found themselves terrorized by a maniac in a rusted truck. They thought he was a regular man, but soon discovered it wasn’t a man at all, but a creature, known as The Creeper (Jonathan Breck), who used fear to pick out their victims and what body parts it wanted to eat from them. After a lengthy chase and plenty of bodies along the way, the siblings finally made it to a police station. They didn’t stay safe for long though as The Creeper tracked them down and trapped them. They tried to hide away as The Creeper was preoccupied with the officers. The Creeper finally reached them and, after going back and forth, it chose Darry to kill. As it was about to take Darry away, Trish tried one more thing. In an act of pure selflessness, she pleaded with it to spare his life and take her instead. Trish was willing to sacrifice herself for her brother. I think The Creeper even considered her offer, but ultimately, it still flew away with Darry.
When Lynn Stabbed Lizard – The Hills Have Eyes

Lynn Bukowski (Vinessa Shaw) was traveling with her family to California. When they stopped at a gas station, they were given directions that soon changed their lives for the worst. While on the road, their tires were popped and they were stuck in the middle of the desert with (supposedly) nothing but a bunch of hills surrounding them. To make matters worse, they were trapped with a bunch of psychotic cannibals that dwelled within the hills. After the cannibals killed her parents, one of the psychos, Lizard (Robert Joy) pointed his gun at Lynn’s sister, Brenda (Emilie de Ravin). With Lizard distracted, Lynn was able to grab a screwdriver and drive it right into his leg. She moved it around, causing Lizard great agony. He then turned the gun towards her and shot her. That move on Lynn’s part saved her sister’s life. She took Lizard’s last bullet so Brenda didn’t have to. She was a fighter to the very end!
When Gwen Tried To Save Nick – Fantasy Island

Gwen Olsen (Maggie Q) was one of a group of people invited to live out their deepest desires at the infamous Fantasy Island. There, she initially talked about her regret rejecting her ex-boyfriend’s proposal. The island took her back to that night and she was able to change her answer. The next morning, she was suddenly married and she had a young daughter. She thought she got exactly what she wanted… but she was wrong. A while back, a fire broke out in her apartment that killed a man, Nick (Evan Evagora), in the building. She carried that guilt with her for a long time, and she rejected that proposal because she didn’t believe she deserved happiness. She demanded a new fantasy: a chance to make things right. She was brought back to the night of the fire and she tried her best to save him. Although she was unsuccessful this time too, going back to that night helped her realize that all of the guests on the island were connected to that fire in one way or another… and that’s why they were all in danger.
When Tess Went Back For AJ – Barbarian

Tess Marshall (Georgina Campbell) rented an Airbnb to prepare for a very important job interview. When a scheduling mix-up caused her and a man, Keith (Bill Skarsgård) to be booked at the house for the same week, they decided to share the space. After her interview, Tess returned and while in the basement, she found a secret door that led to dark and creepy tunnels underneath the house. When Keith went down into the tunnels, he was killed by a psychotic woman. The woman then held Tess hostage as her “baby.” Weeks later, the house’s owner, AJ (Justin Long) went to the house, and he ended up finding the tunnels as well and getting himself caught by the woman. While the woman was distracted with AJ, Tess was able to escape and her first priority was finding help and getting AJ out. When the police refused to take her seriously, Tess returned to save AJ herself. Now, this was definitely a mistake, considering AJ wasn’t someone worth saving. However, I think this was very selfless and brave of her! She went right back to the belly of the beast for a person she didn’t even know. That is certainly commendable.
