Worst Significant Others In Horror Films – Part 4

I honestly had no idea what to write about today. I decided to call out some of the worst significant others in horror films. Whether it’s a husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc. these are some of the ones who treat their loves so poorly. I hope you enjoy and let me know which significant others should be in this series!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Cleopatra – Freaks

Cleopatra (Olga Baclanova) was someone absolutely beautiful on the outside, but completely vile on the inside. After joining the circus, she grabbed the attention of the head of the circus’s freakshow, Hans (Harry Earles). Since Hans was a little person, Cleopatra found his courting to be merely amusing. She pretended she liked him too, while seeing another man behind his back. He spoiled her with anything she desired, but once she realized how wealthy he really was, she decided she wanted more. She thought that she could marry him and slowly kill him, then she could bask in all his riches. She started to show her true colors after the ceremony when Hans’ friends tried to welcome her. She almost got away with her plan, but she underestimated Hans’ friends and she overestimated her own inconspicuousness.

Miguel Salazar – Day Of The Dead

After the world became overrun by zombies, a group of military men were assigned to protect a group of scientists developing on some kind of solution. Miguel Salazar (Anthony Dileo Jr.) was one of the army men and Sarah Bowman (Lori Cardille) was one of the scientists. They developed a physical relationship as they spent more time underground. As the state of the world got worse, Miguel started to break down and fall apart. He lost sleep, and worst of all, he began to resent Sarah because she wasn’t falling apart as well. She tried her best to comfort and help him. He responded to her aide by slapping her and putting her down every chance he got. Not to mention, when he decided to kill himself and let a bunch of zombies into the facility, he never even considered the fact that he would be killing her too. Miguel was selfish, abusive, and Sarah definitely deserved better.

Darren – Boogeyman 2

Darren (Michael Graziadei) and his on-again off-again, Nicky (Chrissy Calhoun) were part of a program that helped people overcome their phobias. Darren was agoraphobic and Nicky suffered from a fear of gaining weight. Darren had a lot of issues and he certainly had no problem taking them out on others. Every time he got close to Nicky again, he pushed her away one way or another. During their last conversation, he was so freaked out, he used Nicky’s fears against her to drive her away. Not only did he act like a complete tool to mask how afraid he really was, he was straight-up emotionally abusive towards Nicky. I know that there was a killer running around and terrorizing them, but even before that, Darren was just a toxic man who couldn’t handle his own emotions.

Delores – Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) was a lowly grave robber during the Black Plague. While fishing through a pile of dead bodies, he met a gorgeous Italian beauty named Delores (Monica Bellucci). Their connection was instant and they got married as soon as they could. After consummating their marriage, they shared wine on their wedding night. What Betelgeuse didn’t realize was that Delores was part of a soul sucking cult, and he was her ticket to immortality. She needed to take his life and his soul for her ritual, so she poisoned his wine. While dying, Betelgeuse returned the favor by grabbing an ax and chopping her up. She didn’t get her immortality, but her soul sucking powers followed her into the afterlife, and she became a powerful being who had the ability to kill those already dead.

Ted Timmis – Oddity

Ted (Gwilym Lee) and Dani (Carolyn Bracken) Timmis were a seemingly happy couple who recently purchased a new country house. At his work, Ted began to develop feelings for another woman, Yana (Caroline Menton). Not wanting to go the path of divorce, Ted decided the only thing to do was kill his own wife. He hatched a plan with one of his staff, Ivan (Steve Wall). While Ted was at work and Dani was at the house all alone, Ivan snuck in and brutally butchered Dani with a hammer. A patient at Ted’s work was framed for the murder and Dani’s sister, Darcy took revenge on him, initially unaware of his innocence. When Darcy finally figured out the truth, Ted killed her, too. Then he committed his accomplice to tie up loose ends. He destroyed multiple lives all because he felt death was better than divorce.
