It’s no surprise that I’m a BIG fan of Kevin Smith’s films. He was my most watched director last year! I especially love the movies in his View Askewniverse. I love how we have all these actors that play multiple characters in the same universe, and it’s all surrounding two particular characters, Jay and Silent Bob. Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite moments in all of Kevin’s View Askewniverse movies. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite moments! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

The Topless Psychic – Mallrats

After almost being framed and arrested, Brodie (Jason Lee) and TS (Jeremy London) hightailed it out of the mall and fled to a lesser beloved strip-mall. While there, Brodie insisted that they should see a topless psychic, Ivannah (Priscilla Barnes) about their broken relationships. I love how Brodie started out excited and TS was skeptical. After seeing that Ivannah had a third nipple, Brodie’s enthusiasm turned into horror. However, during the reading, TS found Ivannah’s advice very helpful. I just love the shift in this scene where Brodie left disappointed and TS took her reading and found it useful in his pursuit. It was so funny that TS wasn’t even focused on the third nipple and it was all Brodie could talk about the whole time. It was very weird that the third nipple turned out to be fake and she just ate it after they left. Every time I watch it, I think, “Why would she eat it? Doesn’t she need it for her next reading?”

The Death Of Azrael – Dogma

As Azrael (Jason Lee) held Bethany (Linda Fiorentino) and her fellow fighters for God hostage, they awaited the end of existence together. While Azrael was basking in his supposed victory, Serendipity tried to influence Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) to strike him with a nearby golf club. Azreal caught on and, amused, gave Bob the club to hit him, believing it wasn’t going to do any damage. I’m a BIG fan of the movie, The Howling and I thought this scene was an incredible homage to it. The way the club punched a hole in his chest and the way Azrael’s smug demeanor disappeared was just too great. Azrael thought he was too powerful, but he had no idea that the club was blessed and ready to smite. It was one of the best humbling moments in the whole franchise.

Craven’s Cameo – Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back

As Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob tried to escape Miramax security, they ran onto the set of the latest Scream movie. As Shannen Doherty overpowered Ghostface, she removed the mask, showing that the killer was Suzanne the orangutan. In a rage, Shannen called cut and stomped over to Wes to chew him out. I really miss seeing Wes Craven and I love how this cameo came to be. As Kevin Smith wasn’t sure a solo Jay and Silent Bob movie would work, they made an appearance in Scream 3 and people LOVED it. I think that had some influence in the development of this film, and I love how Wes gave them a little payback cameo. Scream and the View Askew movies are all about being meta and it’s one of the reasons I love them so much.

Dance Lesson – Clerks II

As Becky (Rosario Dawson) worried that Dante (Brian O’Halloran) was making wrong decision by marrying Emma (Jennifer Schwalbach Smith), she asked him if he had any doubts about going through with the wedding. Dante confided in her about his inability to dance. They went to the rooftop and danced while Jay and Silent Bob blasted ABC by The Jackson 5. I love this scene so much, I would throw on the movie JUST because I wanted to rewatch it. I love how it started out as an intimate moment between Dante and Becky and then the whole place just started jamming out to it. I love how Jay and Silent Bob just pop up with pigtails and Bob started lip-syncing. The choreographed dance right outside of Mooby’s is really what did it for me. This song and those dance moves will get stuck in my head at any time. It was such a random moment but I’m so happy it exists.

The Audition – Clerks III

As Randall (Jeff Anderson) appointed Dante to be the producer of his film, Dante held up an audition for the roles of them and their friends. This scene was cameo overload and I loved every second of it! It’s always great to see Brian Quinn make an appearance in a Kevin Smith film, but it was an extra treat that ALL of the Impractical Jokers showed up for the audition. Sal seemed to really get into it since he was able to cuss here. Plus, it’s always fun to see Ben Affleck in Kevin’s films. Bobby Moynihan auditioning for Silent Bob was so great, he really nailed the facial expressions and mannerisms. I could point out every single cameo, but that would take forever to read. With singing, celebs, and Dante’s famous quote being repeated, the whole scene is such a joy to watch.
