I’m back with part 2 of my favorite birthday-themed TV episodes! These are some of the episodes of my favorite shows that are centered around a character’s birthday celebration. In these shows, a day of celebration usually goes terribly wrong but ends up alright in the end… usually. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite birthday episodes! (POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!)

Friends – The One With Five Steaks And An Eggplant

With the celebration of Monica’s (Courteney Cox) new promotion and Ross’s (David Schwimmer) birthday coming up, Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Joey (Matt LeBlanc), and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) began to feel the financial pressures. When they were honest about their struggles, the group became divided after Monica, Chandler (Matthew Perry), and Ross offered to treat them for Ross’s concert celebration. This one is always my go-to when I throw on season 2. I think it’s a great commentary about true financial struggles and how pride can sometimes get in the way of happiness. Plus, I just love Chandler getting extremely humbled after trying to manipulate a woman. It was a great plot with an unfortunate twist at the end.

Damien – South Park

As Cartman (Trey Parker) and his classmates anticipated his upcoming birthday party, the class got a new student who turned out to be the son of Satan. As the fight between Satan and Jesus (Matt Stone) was planned, to Cartman’s horror, it was set right on his birthday. This one is one of my go-to episodes, so I’m surprised it took me so long to add it here. I love a good horror parody and this episode was great at making The Omen hilarious! It’s so funny how strict Cartman was when it came to giving gifts and all the kids complied because they knew how epic the party was going to be. I also love how Pip gave Damien the WORST advice on how to fit into a new school. This whole episode was so funny and there isn’t a single dull moment, especially in the party scenes!

Emotional Rollercoaster – The King Of Queens

After Doug (Kevin James) turned 40, Carrie (Leah Remini) became concerned that he was too content with his life and he wasn’t going through a mid-life crisis. When Doug heard about this, he decided to pretend to have one and make majorly rash decisions to scare her out of wanting change for their lives. Meanwhile, everyone headed to an amusement park so Doug could conquer a childhood fear of a terrifying roller coaster. I love how this one feels like a two-part episode. We have the initial set-up of Doug’s “crisis”, then we’re led into everyone’s different adventures at the park. Spence (Patton Oswalt) falls in love with a person in an ice cream costume, Arthur (Jerry Stiller) pretends to be a handicapped veteran to skip all the lines, and Doug tries to keep his plan going with Carrie after running into his boss. The whole episode was chaotic (for them) and hilarious!

Lecture Circuit – The Office

After the scandal between Phyllis (Phyllis Smith) and Angela (Angela Kinsey) came to a head, Michael (Steve Carell) told them to step down from the Party Planning Committee and appointed Jim (John Krasinski) and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) to plan everything instead. After they completely forget Kelly’s (Mindy Kaling) birthday, they tried their best to make up for it the next day. This is one of Jim and Dwight’s best episodes! They clash so much more than usual all to get a simple birthday party together. From decoration mishaps, to candle fumbles, to theme picking, this was a whole party planning disaster. I rarely say Kelly deserves better, but in this case, Kelly deserves better.

Manny Get Your Gun – Modern Family

As Jay (Ed O’Neill) and Gloria (Sofia Vergara) struggled to find the car keys to make it to the restaurant for Manny’s (Rico Rodriguez) birthday, Manny realized he never really experienced being a kid. Before his dinner, Manny tried desperately to cram all childish things into one day: from mixing different sodas, to attempting some prank calls. What was really great about this episode was when it came to the end of the episode, Manny realized, after viewing the behavior of his family members, that you are never too old for an adventure. I love Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire’s (Julie Bowen) race to the restaurant, and I love Mitch’s (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) flash mob surprise for Cam (Eric Stonestreet)… even if he didn’t. This whole episode had hilarious, wonderful, and surprising moments, perfect elements for a good birthday!
