So, I wanted to give Scream 7 another watch because I felt like I originally went into it ready to dislike it. With everything that happened to Melissa Barrera and Christopher Landon, I wasn’t sure I wanted to even watch it. Sure enough, I watched it and I didn’t like it. As I was re-watching it yesterday, I decided to write down all the random thoughts I had during it, and today I’m sharing those random thoughts with you. I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think of the film!! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)

• One thing I loved about the opening scene is that Scott (Jimmy Tatro) and Madison (Michelle Randolph) had absolutely no connection to any of the main characters or Woodsboro, and they are the only ones who are killed just for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. In Scream, Casey was (supposedly) targeted for dumping Stu for Steve. In Scream 2, Maureen and Phil were killed because their names were similar to previous Woodsboro victims. In Scream 3, Cotton was killed for not telling Ghostface where Sidney was hiding. In Scream 4, Jenny was targeted for sleeping with Jill’s boyfriend, Trevor. In Scream 2022, Tara was attacked to draw Sam back to Woodsboro. In Scream VI, Jason and his accomplice were killed for planning to murder Sam and Bailey needed them out of the way. Scott was just a huge Ghostface fan and he dragged Madison to the house to geek out. This opener was all about the house, Scott and Madison were killed because they were just… there.

• Speaking of which, when Madison and Scott talked about Amber being burned alive, Madison mentioned how she would hate to die like that. The fact that Ghostface heard that and was like, “alright, challenge accepted,” and he burned her alive was just so sadistic and messed up!

• What was so great about Hannah’s (Mckenna Grace) death scene is that she was one of the rare Ghostface victims who had absolutely ZERO chance of surviving. Everyone else in the franchise at least had the chance to run or fight before getting killed. Because Hannah was strung up and swinging, she had no chance and nowhere to go. That gave Ghostface the chance to play with her a little bit before delivering the final blow. Again, these killers are straight-up sadistic!

• Ok, so this movie basically confirmed Stu (Matthew Lillard) is dead, right? Because frankly, I’m a little tired of being strung along on the chance that we might see him again (not in AI form). If it’s not totally confirmed that he’s dead, I like to imagine that he was the one who killed Scott and Madison and burned his own house to the ground.

• I really appreciate that this movie didn’t pull a 2018’s Halloween and acted like Scream 2022 and Scream VI never happened. With all the BS that happened behind the scenes, they could’ve been like, “You know what? Let’s pretend Sam and Tara Carpenter never existed and Dewey never died.” I do hate that they were never mentioned here. Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad (Mason Gooding) roll into town and Sidney (Neve Campbell) never even asks them how Sam and Tara are doing? It just seems odd that the characters never mentioned 2 of the Core Four.

• I feel really bad for Ethan Embry here. He wanted to be a part of the Scream franchise since he auditioned for the first film. He’s finally made it and he’s about to be one of the most forgotten Ghostface killers. The guy didn’t even have a motive! He just met Jessica and was just thinking, “Ok, I’ll kill this random person and the people around her with you!” I guess Stu had that motive, too. However, Stu knew the people he killed and probably had his personal reasons for killing them that he never talked about. Marco didn’t even have that going for him.

• Don’t get me started on Karl’s (Kraig Dane) involvement either. Jessica (Anna Camp) and Marco had their big reveal/motive explanation moment and they left out how they got Karl to attack Sidney with them. It was all about Jessica’s motive and the other 2 were just brought on because there’s usually more than one killer.

• One thing I hate that they did was announce every single cameo to promote the film. They fired Melissa Barrera and in order to make sure a**es got put in seats, they brought back any dead character they could find. The reveals of these characters could’ve been an epic surprise, but Spyglass knew they messed up and this was their idea of damage control.

• Honestly, 2026’s Sidney and 2018’s Laurie Strode should’ve switched places. Laurie was attacked by one maniac 40 years ago. Sidney was almost killed by her friends, her love interests, even her own family for most of her life. She should’ve been the paranoid, overprotective mother who over-prepared her kids, and Laurie should’ve been the one hiding her past and having wildly unprepared kids (and grandkids).

• It’s a real shame Tatum Riley didn’t survive the first film. She would’ve been an epic, no-nonsense aunt to Tatum (Isabel May).

• There is no way Mark (Joel McHale) survived after being stabbed that many times and left there for hours with untreated wounds. I mean, I’m glad he survived, but I just keep thinking about how there was no way he would’ve survived being in that condition and bleeding out all that time.

• The first time I saw this film, when Lucas (Asa Germann) burst out of the kitchen after being stabbed, I 100% believed he was pulling a Billy Loomis and just pretending to be stabbed, giving us a nice little throwback. This theory was, of course, debunked just minutes later when he was killed.

• Speaking of Lucas’s death, I’d buy Stu being alive this whole time and he was the one who killed Lucas before I EVER believe that Lucas’s tiny mother was able to lift his limp body above her head and onto the beer spike with ease. Before anyone says that it was Marco, no it wasn’t! Marco was busy chasing Tatum through town and he was the one Tatum shot in the coffee shop.

• So… am I the only one who thinks that if Sidney didn’t ditch Gale (Courteney Cox), they could’ve gotten to Tatum a LOT sooner? I know Sidney didn’t want to drag Gale into it, but her daughter’s life was a stake. You need all the help you can get, and a car, Sidney!

• I think in some cases, Sidney was right when it came to what Tatum wanted. If she really wanted to know about Sidney’s past, she could’ve dived more into it other ways. Her mom was a closed book, but she could’ve asked other people who were there, like Gale.

• At the very least, Mark and Sidney could’ve taught Tatum basic self-defense. I guess it’s supposed to come natural to her because she’s Sidney Prescott’s daughter, but they could’ve prepared her a LITTLE on the off-chance that a new crazy Ghostface would come after them. I just don’t see how shielding them from her past was her plan of protecting them. I mean , that’s good advice for any parent. Make sure your child can protect themselves against ANY danger!

• Compared to the other films, the length between the killer reveals and the killers’ deaths were noticeably quick. I have nothing to say about it, it’s just an observation.

• Jessica’s death was pretty gnarly, her face was just blown right off by all those bullets. That’s probably one of my favorite ways a Ghostface died!

• I thought it was odd that Sidney and Tatum didn’t ride in the ambulance with Mark, who they almost lost. I know Sidney and Gale needed that last heart-to-heart, but they couldn’t do that at the hospital? What if he died on the way there? They never would’ve gotten to say goodbye.
