My Favorite Moments In The View Askewniverse – Part 2

I’m back with part 2 of my favorite moments in Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse! From inappropriate titles, to swift justice, to characters not learning from there mistakes, these are some of the moments in Kevin Smith’s shared universe that made me a huge fan. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite View Askewniverse moments!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Happy Scrappy Hero Pup – Clerks

While on the phone to the video distributor, Randal (Jeff Anderson) was asked by a mom with her child if he had a copy of Happy Scrappy Hero Pup. Right in front of them, Randal ordered a bunch of porno movies with the dirtiest titles before finally getting to Happy Scrappy Hero Pup. The scene itself was hilarious, but what happened behind the scenes really made it stick with me. I really respect that Jeff Anderson didn’t want to say all of those things in front of a child, so they shot him saying all of the titles and they shot the mother and child’s reactions completely separate and edited them together later. I always think of that bit of trivia when I throw this movie on. It was a fantastic way of doing a really messed up scene without going too far.

Calling Out Mooby’s – Dogma

Wanting to do a little smiting of the wicked before going home, Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon) decided to target the leaders of the Mooby’s empire. Interrupting their latest board meeting, the angels went around the room, calling out the sick and horrid things each person has done, from homophobia, to endangering their customers, to rape, pedophilia, and incest. It just goes to show that some of the most powerful people are also some of the absolute worst. With the exception of one innocent woman, the whole board deserved every bullet they got. I also love Bartleby and Loki’s banter throughout. They called each other out a bit too, like bickering brothers. If only we had that kind of smiting in real life.

The Not-So-Silent Alarm – Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back

Justice (Shannon Elizabeth), Missy (Jennifer Schwalbach Smith), Sissy (Eliza Dushku), and Chrissy (Ali Larter) were international diamond thieves ready to pull off the heist of the century. As they reached the room where the diamonds were kept, they had to avoid all the lasers and be as quiet as possible because too much noise would trigger the alarm. Justice and Sissy were able to get through the lasers with no issues. When it was Chrissy’s turn, she got past the lasers, but then she let out a very loud fart, triggering the alarm. What I love about this scene is that because Justice was hesitant on doing the heist and using Jay and Silent Bob as a distraction, I was positive that she was going to be the one to mess things up. The fact that it was Chrissy, one of the most serious characters, who did it after eating some Mooby’s was so hilarious.

Jay, The Slow Learner – Clerks II

While Jay was peeing right next to the back door of Mooby’s, Randal and Dante (Brian O’Halloran) threw the door open, knocking Jay (Jason Mewes) down. Minutes later, Jay was in the exact same spot when Becky (Rosario Dawson) threw the door open and knocked him down, yet again. I’ll admit, it took me a while to really appreciate how great this moment is. The fact that Jay got hit so hard, it knocked him down, and he didn’t think that it would be a good idea to find a different spot was just too great. It’s such a small moment, but it’s definitely one of Jay’s best and dumbest moments.

Silent Bob And Ms. McKenzie – Jay And Silent Bob Reboot

While making a pit stop at Mooby’s, Jay went to the bathroom, leaving Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) to order his own meal. Now that he’s vegan, Silent Bob tried ordering with an eggplant emoji on his phone. Completely misinterpreting his message, the cashier (Kate Micucci) pulled out a knife and called over her manager, Ms. McKenzie (Jennifer Schwalbach Smith). Instead of being repulsed, Ms. McKenzie took Silent Bob to the bathroom where they shared a very passionate experience. I just love seeing Jennifer in Kevin’s films, even if it’s just for one scene. I love that Silent Bob finally gets some love and it’s with his real life wife. It’s really great how the scene ends with her saying she wasn’t hungry because she just “ate some vegan.” That’s such a great joke to me. I also love that, unlike Adam Sandler, Kevin Smith has no problem kissing his wife on-screen.
