My Favorite LGBTQIA+ Movie Characters – Part 2

It may not be Pride Month at the moment, but it doesn’t have to be for me to bring you part 2 of my favorite LGBTQIA+ movie characters! These are some of the movie characters in the Queer Community and stories that stuck with me the most. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite LGBTQIA+ movie characters!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Mr. Green – Clue

Mr. Green (Michael McKean) was a gay man who worked for the State Department. In order to avoid being outed and fired due to his sexuality, he was forced to pay a blackmailer who found out his secret. When Mr. Green and other blackmailed people were invited to a dinner to confront the blackmailer, bodies started piling up in order for secrets to be kept. Mr. Green really held his own against this group. I hate that they immediately felt weird towards him after his confession. Plus, when Wadsworth (Tim Curry), the butler, began recreating the killer’s tracks, he specifically targeted Green, and I’ll admit, I previously questioned if it was because he was gay. However, I really love that Green was the ONLY innocent person in all three endings of the film! True, one ending showed he was actually straight and married, but that’s my least favorite ending anyways, so I choose to ignore that.

Alyssa Jones – Chasing Amy

Alyssa Jones (Joey Lauren Adams) was a lesbian comic book artist who entered a relationship with a man, Holden (Ben Affleck), who believed he could “convert her.” Now, this may be controversial, but after watching this film again, I believe that Alyssa was actually pansexual, not a lesbian. She’s someone who was looking for a meaningful relationship and she really didn’t care if it was with a man or a woman. It was all about connection with her. I just felt so bad for her. She was shunned by her gay friends for being in a relationship with a man. THEN, Holden ended things with her when he found out he wasn’t the first man she’d been with. She really held her own against Holden’s ignorant questions and statements. Alyssa really deserved better from EVERYONE in her life and I’m glad she finally got the happy life and relationship she was looking for.

Vanessa Valdeon – Urban Legends: Final Cut

Vanessa (Eva Mendes) was a film student at Alpine University. After her best friend, Amy (Jennifer Morrison) came up with a story idea about a psycho who murders his victims based on urban legends, a real life Maniac heard about it and decided to use that to target and kill Amy’s classmates. Vanessa is my all-time favorite character in this movie! She had no problem speaking her mind and she was a loyal friend to the end. Unfortunately, the killer knew the way to get to her was through her heart and her feelings for Amy. She was funny, helpful, tough, and she deserved a lot better than the fate she got.

Alpa Chino – Tropic Thunder

Alpa Chino (Brandon T. Jackson) was your typical closeted gay man who tried to show everyone how much he loved women through his rap music and exploitative products. When he landed a role in the much anticipated war movie, Tropic Thunder, a dream soon turned into a nightmare when the cast and some of the crew ended up in the backyard of a heroin production plant and were pursued by actually dangerous people. Alpa had no problem calling out the issues of his co-star and putting him in his place for being a racist method actor. He was brave when he needed to be and his near-death experience finally gave him the courage to take out the man of his dreams.

Nina Riley – Until Dawn

Nina (Odessa A’zion), her boyfriend, Abe (Belmont Cameli), and her friends traveled to various destinations in order to help their friend, Clover (Ella Rubin) get closure over her missing sister. When Clover actually figured out the last place her sister went to was Glore Valley, they went there and became immersed in a deadly time loop that they have to survive until dawn to escape from. I absolutely LOVE Nina. Her friends were her family and that never changed no matter how many times they all died in that place. Her boyfriend was one of the most selfish characters I’ve ever seen and she didn’t put up with it one bit. She even stabbed Abe once after he let Clover go out and get herself killed. She was a loyal friend and a good person.
