I’m back with part 3 of my favorite moments in Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse! These films will always be go-tos for me and these are some of the moments why. From movie references, to intense debates, to soul-crushing goodbyes, these are of the moments in Kevin Smith’s shared universe that stuck with me the most. Silent Bob’s First Words – Clerks

After a long day of dealing drugs and chilling by the Quick Stop, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) saw Dante (Brian O’Halloran) one last time before heading home to chill some more. There, they really put things in perspective for Dante about his relationship issues. What I love most about this scene was that one little blunder helped create one of the best running gags in the entire franchise. Silent Bob was always meant to be completely mute and never talk. However, Jason Mewes kept messing up his final lines to the point where Kevin Smith was so frustrated, that he decided to recite the lines himself. I love that Silent Bob isn’t really mute, he just likes to talk only when necessary. It created some very iconic moments (including this one) in all the View Askewniverse films.

Oral War Stories – Chasing Amy

While explaining why he no longer goes down on a woman, Banky (Jason Lee) and Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams) started comparing the various injuries they acquired while performing oral sex. I recently re-watched this scene and it went completely over my head that this was an homage to the famous scar story scene in Jaws. I loved the quick reenactments as each character went back and forth with their stories. Plus, I love the reference to the characters in Kevin Smith’s previous installment, Mallrats. The whole concept of having permanent injuries while going down on someone was so hilarious. Holden (Ben Affleck) almost ruined the scene by just sitting there and sulking just because Alyssa wasn’t available to him.

The Lord Of The Rings Rant – Clerks II

After Elias (Trevor Fehrman) encountered a customer who loved Lord Of The Rings as much as he did, Randal (Jeff Anderson) just couldn’t handle them geeking out about it, so he went on a complete rant about everything wrong with the trilogy. This led to an intense Lord Of The Rings vs. Star Wars debate that ended with the customer vomiting in anger. From what I understand, Kevin Smith actually hated the Lord Of The Rings films so the fact that he put all the problems he had with the films in Randal’s mouth was so great. He even had other customers agreeing with Randal, which is so funny to me. It was still a very interesting and hilarious debate. Although I love the Lord Of The Rings films, I have to say Randal definitely won this round.

Silent Bob’s Distraction – Jay And Silent Bob Reboot

After Milly (Harley Quinn Smith) and her friends ditched Jay and Silent Bob, they were kidnapped by the klan. Luckily, Jay and Silent Bob found them and they needed a distraction in order to save them. While dressing like one of them, Silent Bob gave them a whole speech on how to be better klan members. Kevin Smith is definitely a big fan of Glengarry Glen Ross because he referenced it in more than one of his films. Admittedly, I’ve never seen the movie, but I definitely know that speech! I love that Silent Bob actually made the speech work and distracted them long enough for Jay to blast them all with the insides of a port-a-potty.

Dante’s Movie Screening – Clerks III

After FINALLY realizing how much Dante did for him, including putting up his half of the Quick Stop to fund his movie, Randal had a moment of clarity and completely changed his movie. While Jay distracted the hospital staff, Randal was able to sneak into Dante’s room and show him how much he meant to him, and played the movie as it should’ve been. This scene just destroys me every time I watch it. We’re taken back to the very beginning, and with The Water Is Wide playing in the background, it’s almost too much for me. Dante’s soul watching his life pass before his eyes in an empty theater with Becky (Rosario Dawson) was just so beautiful. The whole thing was so well done and tragic. It makes me cry every time.
