Today, I’m bringing you horror fans a new series! Sometimes a horror movie character avoids a horrific fate by using their intelligence, and sometimes it’s just plain luck that saves them. I went back and forth on whether to talk about lucky horror characters, or moments a character was extremely lucky. I guess this series has a little bit of both. I hope you enjoy and let me know who you think are the luckiest horror movie characters!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Ted Bowen – Friday The 13th: Part 2

Ted (Stuart Charno) was a counselor starting at a new camp with his friends. Unfortunately, the camp is set up near the infamous Camp Crystal Lake, where many counselors were murdered 5 years prior. Things started out just fine, but the counselors were unaware that the Crystal Lake killer’s son, Jason Voorhees (Warrington Gillette) was lurking the lake grounds, ready to continue what his mother started. While some of the counselors stayed at the camp, the others, Ted included, headed into town for a few drinks. As they drank and partied, Jason slaughtered everyone who was still at the camp. As everyone was going back to the camp, Ted decided to stay in town and hit another bar. That decision saved his life as he never had an encounter with Jason. I can’t imagine what he felt when he heard about all of his friends the next day.

Rudi Vanderpole & Maggie – Happy Birthday To Me

Rudi (David Eisner) and Maggie (Lenore Zann) were part of an elite group of students, known as the Top 10, at the snobby Crawford Academy. As they approached the birthday of one of the members, Virginia (Melissa Sue Anderson), a killer started picking off the others, one by one, in horrific ways. The killer turned out to be one of their own, Ann (Tracey E. Bregman), who wanted revenge on Virginia for her mother having an affair with Ann’s father. She murdered the others in order to frame Virginia and make her feel crazy. So why were Rudi and Maggie spared in all of this? It’s because they weren’t there years ago when Virginia lost her mother while everyone else was at Ann’s party- the night that started Ann’s resentment towards Virginia. They got to get away from this whole mess unscathed because they didn’t even go to that school when it all started.

The REAL Jennifer Jenzen – House On Haunted Hill (1999)

Jennifer Jenzen was a film producer who received an invitation to an extravagant birthday party hosted at the infamous Vannacutt Psychiatric Institute. After Jennifer fired one of her employees, Sara (Ali Larter), Sara stole her invitation when she heard the event included a large cash prize. What Sara (and the other invitees) didn’t realize was that they were actually invited by the spirits of the asylum who wanted revenge on the descendants of the sadistic doctors and nurses who escaped the giant massacre that killed them all. I debated including Jennifer in this series because, even though I would watch this film and think, “Man, Jennifer dodged a HUGE bullet,” apparently the deleted scenes tell a different story. I decided on including her here anyways. Sara thought she was getting back at Jennifer for firing her, but she actually saved her from a whole lot of trouble by stealing that invitation.

All Of The Sisters Who Went Home For The Holidays – Black Christmas (2006)

Many years after psycho, Billy Lenz (Robert Mann) killed his family and was locked away, the home he was locked in a majority of his life was turned into a sorority house. Over Christmas break, many of the sisters went home or on vacation, while a handful stayed at the house. After Billy escaped from the asylum he was locked up in, he and his sister/daughter, Agnes (Dean Friss) attacked and killed almost everyone now residing in that house. When I last watched this, I thought about all of the girls who went home on that particular Christmas when Billy chose to finally escape. I thought about how lucky it was for them that they all had plans with family and friends, and that they were far away from that house when s**t really hit the fan.

Bell – Borderline

Bell (Eric Dane) was the security guard of famous pop star, Sofia (Samara Weaving). After a girl died at one of her concerts, her boyfriend, Paul (Ray Nicholson) developed a dangerous obsession with Sofia. Bell is the reason I wanted to created this series, because he survived by pure luck not once, but two different times. Once while Sofia was away and Bell was watching over her place, Paul stabbed him and left him to bleed out while he played in Sofia’s house. He would’ve died if Paul didn’t call the police and turn himself in. Six months after that incident, Paul escaped from where he was locked up, hellbent on marrying Sofia. His accomplice, J.H. (Patrick Cox) took Bell outside and shot him in the head to make sure he couldn’t stop the wedding. Because J.H.’s eyesight wasn’t good and he tried to kill him in the dark, the bullet merely scraped his head, and Bell was able to escape death for a second time.
