Horror Movies That I Think Have TV Series Potential – Part 1

Welcome to Day 4 of Spooky Season!! Back when I wrote for PopHorror, I wrote an article about horror movies that I think would be good TV series. Since then, two of my suggestions ended up happening, we were given a Chucky show AND a Creepshow show! I decided to bring this series back in the hopes of manifesting more horror TV shows that I want to see. These are some of the horror movies I personally think have TV series potential! I hope you enjoy and let me know which horror films you think should get the TV series treatment!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Saw

Possible Ideas: Saw is also known as the series that just wouldn’t die. All I know is that I want more traps, more comeuppance, and more Jigsaw! The possible premise for the Saw tv show could be more of a spin-off. A man bullied his whole life starts to become obsessed with John Kramer and his accomplices. The man learns everything about John and his philosophy, teaches himself how to create traps, and tries to continue John’s legacy.

Why It Could Work: Saw has many films in the franchise. Most of the films were woven together beautifully. Whatever questions you had in one sequel would get answered in the next. The writers of this franchise did a fantastic job with the story, I think if they wrote a series and continued the Saw legacy, people would love it! I know I would.

Hard Candy

Possible Ideas: I know technically Hard Candy isn’t a horror film, but the mental and physical torture that vigilante justice brings can be plenty horrific. The series can follow Haley as she travels to different places and tracks down pedophiles. Yes, it’s vague, but vague ideas lead to so many possibilities. It could also center a whole group of young girls looking to rid the world of all the pedophile scum.

Why It Could Work: Hard Candy could be a great mix of mystery, thriller, and horror. It could be a good TV series with a bold message, a message that would be especially relevant in these times.

The Cabin In The Woods

Possible Ideas: Since a sequel is DEFINITELY out of the question, this show would be more successful as a prequel series. The series could start with how the sacrifices to the ancient ones started. The Cabin In The Woods could have a Supernatural kind of feel, where each episode has a different beast being captured and used for the sacrifice.

Why It Could Work: The Cabin In The Woods was something so fresh and so original. It reminded us of the classic horror films we loved and left us wanting more! With the right people behind it, we could get a new series with the right combination of anthology, horror, and humor.

Oculus

Possible Ideas: The film already gave us a little bit of the history of the haunted mirror and its previous victims. I can see this one as kind of an anthology prequel series. I want to know more about this mirror, and I think it would be really cool to go back in time to see the lives of the other people the mirror destroyed. It can also have stories set in the present after Kaylee and Tim tried to destroy it and where it is now.

Why It Could Work: Mike Flanagan is a horror powerhouse right now. He’s created a lot of interesting stories and people will watch anything that he has his name on. This story has the potential to be expanded and I think they can get really creative with their death scenes and their scares.

Smile

Possible Ideas: Smile 2 ended with a LOT of people getting infected by the demonic parasite. We could follow any of these characters. One episode could end with one person dying in front of another and the next episode could then follow them, as a sort of anthology. The show could even follow Morris as he tries to save as many as he can and he becomes the demon’s main enemy/target.

Why It Could Work: The Smile movies are just amazing. With creepy atmosphere, suspense building, and creative kills, they have been very successful at making an impact. The second film ended with the demon infecting a TON of people, expanding its victims and their stories. I think it could be successful as a series.
