Best Horror Movie Double Features – Part 6

Welcome to Day 5 of Spooky Season!! It wouldn’t be Spooky Season without some horror movie double feature recommendations. Today, I bring you part 6 of horror films that I believe would make good double features. With at least one connection, these films have the ability to make for one entertaining October movie night. I hope you enjoy and let me know which horror films would make great double features!!

Halloween: Resurrection & Wrong Turn 2: Dead End

Connection: Reality Shows Gone Very Wrong

Sometimes your dream of creating a successful reality show goes down the drain when psychopaths steal the spotlight. In Halloween: Resurrection, a group of college students are chosen to explore the house of infamous serial killer, Michael Myers, who decides to come home and clean house that very night. In Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, a show of survival turns into an actual fight for survival when contestants and crew members find themselves up against a psychotic cannibal family. This is a great double feature for those who love a good body count and a sequel that doesn’t take itself seriously. Both films have plenty of false scares and real ones for those just trying to get famous, solve a mystery, or win some money.

Secret Window & The Number 23

Connection: Who Wrote The Book?

I never realized how good these two films work together until I actually bought them together. Secret Window follows Mort Rainey (Johnny Depp), a recently divorced writer who’s suddenly stalked by a maniac who claims Rainey stole his story. The Number 23 follows Walter Sparrow (Jim Carrey), a dog catcher who is gifted a book of paranoia and begins to obsess over the mystery of the story and the number 23 he suddenly sees everywhere. There are actually quite a few elements that these two tales share, but I can’t spoil them all here. The main elements that I CAN say they have in common center around betrayal, paranoia, and obsession.

Trick ‘R Treat & Tales Of Halloween

Connection: Anthology Halloween Terror In One Town

It’s time for a double feature that fits the holiday season! Trick ‘R Treat follows the various residents of Warren Valley, Ohio who deal with serial killers, vicious werewolves, and the very spirit of Halloween. Tales Of Halloween gives us ten different spooky stories centered around the same suburb, from vengeful spirits, to killer children, to a deadly decorating rivalry. Both films perfect the Halloween vibes and gives us multiple stories filled with blood, shock, horror, and even a little humor. Both films are guaranteed to keep you entertained on the spookiest night of the year!

Suspiria (2018) & Apartment 7A

Connection: All Of Them Dancing Witches

The power of dancing can contrast devastating horror elements in such a beautiful way. Suspiria takes us all the way to Berlin with Susie Bannion (Dakota Johnson), a young dancer who gets accepted to one of the most prestigious dance academies run by some of the most powerful and dangerous witches. Apartment 7A takes us back to 1960s New York with Theresa Gionoffrio (Julia Garner), a struggling dancer who seems to finally get her break after accepting help from an old couple, only to find out they have devastating plans for her in return. Both films deal with witches using others for their own benefits and aspiring dancers who challenge them. They are visually stunning and utterly shocking.

Drive Back & It Ends

Connection: Endless Road Trips

If you love long road trips, existentialism, and trippy “what on Earth is going on” moments, these two films are perfect for you! In Drive Back, a couple leaving their engagement party must break their endless cycle on the road in order to prevent history from repeating. In It Ends, a group of friends on a late-night food run turn on an endless highway, and they have to figure out why they’re there and how to get out of it. These films are fantastic at making us question everything we’re seeing. The intensity, the dread, and the sorrow are all wrapped up in a little car on an endless road.
