My Favorite Horror Final Guys – Part 9

Welcome to Day 26 of Spooky Season! I’m back with another installment of my favorite horror movie final guys! These guys went up against psychotic killers, giant and hungry amorphous beings, or power-hungry aliens, and with their bravery and intelligence, they all triumphed in the end. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite horror movie final guys!! (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!)

Phroso – Freaks

Phroso (Wallace Ford) was a clown who worked at a traveling circus. After another worker, Venus (Leila Hyams) ended things with her toxic boyfriend, Hercules (Henry Victor), she and Phroso began a romance with each other. After Hercules started a secret relationship with another woman, Cleopatra (Olga Baclanova), they started to swindle the head of the circus’s freakshow, Hans (Harry Earles), who also had feelings for Cleopatra. After Cleopatra married Hans, she began to poison him for his money. Knowing exactly what they were up to, Venus confronted Hercules and told him they needed to confess before she went to the cops herself. Realizing Venus was in the way, Hercules decided she was a loose end that needed to be cut off. Now, I don’t really like how Phroso treated Venus and talked to her sometimes, but I do love how he came through for her in the end. When he heard Hercules was going to kill her, he didn’t hesitate to fight him and help her. He always cared about his circus friends and he was always there for them.

Reggie “The Reckless” Winter – Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning

Reggie (Shavar Ross) was a little kid staying with his grandfather who was the cook at the Pinehurst Youth Development Center. After one of the kids there was brutally murdered by another, the kid’s father, Roy (Dick Wieand) snapped and took revenge on those at the center. Poor Reggie had to grow up pretty quickly after being pulled into something that had nothing to do with him. Roy killed his grandfather AND his brother just for the hell of it. Reggie was a very smart and brave kid! He knew when to run and when to fight. After seeing all the bodies at the center, Reggie bolted straight to the tractor. As Roy was about to kill the center’s supervisor, Pam (Melanie Kinnaman), Reggie drove the tractor straight into his stomach. He was very smart and he knew how to utilize the things around him to defend himself against a killer and protect the people he cared about.

Brian Flagg – The Blob (1988)

Brian Flagg (Kevin Dillon) was the rebel in the small town of Arborville, California. After encountering a man with something strange eating his hand, he helped get the man to the hospital. However, the thing on his hand completely devoured him and many others in its path. Brian was, of course, the first suspect, but not for long. As the blob grew and ate its way through the town, Brian learned that it was actually man-made and those who created it allowed it to devour innocent people in order to study it. Brian had the chance to leave the town that didn’t want him, but he just couldn’t leave a girl he cared about, Meg (Shawnee Smith), to die. He went from being the town outcast to the hero everyone needed. He really showed he wasn’t a bad person, especially when it came to doing the right thing.

Byron Williams – Mars Attacks!

Byron Williams (Jim Brown) was a former champion boxer who was trying to make enough money in Las Vegas to get to Washington D.C. to see his kids and his ex-wife. His plan came to a screeching halt after Martians began to attack the world and kill everyone in their path. As one of his friends loaded a small plane to escape Vegas, Byron and a few others tried to get to the plane. They were so close to flying out of there, but a whole group of Martians blocked their path. Realizing that they needed a distraction, Byron put his own needs aside to save his friends. He ran to them and challenged the head of the group to a bear-knuckle boxing match. He of course won, but then all the other Martians overpowered him. This should’ve been the end of Byron, but he proved to be a lot tougher than everyone realized. After the Martians were finally defeated all over the world, Byron made it all the way home to his family. He was tough, caring, and unbelievably selfless.

Lars – Club Dread

Lars (Kevin Heffernan) was the new masseur at the luxurious Pleasure Island, run by his idol, Coconut Pete (Bill Paxton). Things started off fantastic as this was a paradise for both the staff and the guests. However, once one of the employees, Sam (Erik Stolhanske) realized Pete was giving the island and the business to his nephew, he believed he could run the place so much better to him. So, he started killing the staff members in order to make sure they did their jobs. Lars really held his own here. Since he was new, he was the main suspect and Sam really tried his best to frame him. With the power of his “magic hands”, Lars was able to subdue his enemy and help his co-workers. Plus, his obsession with Pete helped him figure out the clues that Sam laid out for the staff (even if the clues were complete BS). He was just a temporary replacement and he triumphed in a situation he never should’ve been in.
