Welcome to Day 28 of Spooky Season!! Today, I bring you part 3 of my favorite “save the day” moments in horror films! I just love a good rescue, especially in my favorite genre. Whether it was a temporary save or it led to the person’s survival, these are some of my favorite moments where one character saves another. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite “save the day” moments in horror films!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)
When Carne Saved Alana – Terror Train

During a college frat party, a disturbing prank led one of the freshman, Kenny (Derek McKinnon) to have a mental breakdown. When Kenny was left in a mental asylum, those responsible for the prank got to live their lives carefree. Three years later, the classmates boarded a train to celebrate the New Year, unaware that Kenny planned on making an appearance. As he quickly and quietly killed those involved in the prank, there was just one girl left, Alana (Jamie Lee Curtis). Alana was the only one who felt any remorse, but Kenny didn’t care, as Alana was still the one who lured him in for the prank. When Kenny forced Alana to kiss him, it brought him back to that night, and he began to break down again. As he was distracted, the train’s conductor, Carne (Ben Johnson) came in and knocked him right off the train! Carne is such an underrated hero and this moment is what inspired me to create this series in the first place. I love that he didn’t even hesitate!
When Barbara Saved Lydia – Beetlejuice

Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam (Alec Baldwin) Maitland were a loving couple who suffered a terrible accident, and their spirits were now stuck in their home. When a new family moved in, the Maitlands couldn’t stand how different they were and they wanted them out. They asked for the help of the most infamous bio-exorcist, Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton), but they realized quickly just how insane he was. After attacking the family, Betelgeuse set his sights on the young daughter, Lydia (Winona Ryder). After Lydia’s family held a séance to reveal the Maitlands, it actually starts to kill the couple, so Lydia went to Betelgeuse for help. Sure enough, he helped… in return for her hand in marriage. As he set up his demented ceremony, Barbara and Adam did everything they could to send him back to the afterlife. To get rid of her, Betelgeuse sent Barbara to the land of the Sandworms, a big mistake on his part. Barbara then crashed right through the house with the Sandworm and it ate Betelgeuse. I just LOVE that it was Barbara who saved the day by literally crashing the wedding!
When Ollie Saved The Group – The Mist

Ollie Weeks (Toby Jones) worked at a supermarket in the small town of Bridgton, Maine. On what seemed like a normal day, a large mist completely engulfed the town and a small group of people found themselves trapped in the market. Inside of the mist lied various monstrous creatures with a taste for blood. With nowhere to go, people began turning to the person who acted like she had all of the answers, Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden). Carmody made people believe she was a prophet of God and that God sent the mist and the monsters to punish them for their sins. As time went on, more began to believe her and do her bidding. As the remaining sane people planned their escape, they were ambushed and surrounded. Carmody decided that they all needed to be sacrificed in order for things to go back to normal. She was finally silenced when Ollie pulled out a gun and shot her. This was a prime example of actions speaking louder than words. Mrs. Carmody could spew all the garbage she wanted, but in one second, Ollie ended the madness, saved his group, and allowed them all to escape.
When Ben, Carter, & Augie Saved The Party – Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse

Ben (Tye Sheridan), Carter (Logan Miller), and Augie (Joey Morgan) were three scouts who were mocked by their peers. As Augie was the only one still into it, Carter and Ben were ready to hang it all up. When Carter got an invitation to a secret senior party, they planned to ditch Augie at their camp-out. However, when all three of them got back to town, they found that it was completely taken over by ravenous zombies. They also learned that the town was evacuated EXCEPT for the secret party. Since Carter was given a fake address, it was up to them to find out where the party was and save everyone before the town got nuked. The three scouts armed themselves with whatever weapons they could create, ready to save the day. When Carter’s sister, Kendall (Halston Sage) tried to leave the party, she was too late as the zombies found them all. The whole party turned into bloody chaos, but luckily the boys showed up before they were all killed. They came back and saved a group of people who turned their backs on them. It was such a great and heroic moment.
When Daniel Saved Grace – Ready Or Not

Daniel (Adam Brody) and Alex (Mark O’Brien) Le Domas grew up in a board game empire. They were led to believe that their family obtained their wealth by selling their souls to the demon known as Mr. Le Bail. For generations, they’ve had to sacrifice whoever Mr. Le Bail wanted in whatever method he chose. As Alex distanced himself from the family, he met and fell in love with a beautiful woman, Grace (Samara Weaving). Grace always wanted a big family, so she insisted that he make amends with them, unaware of the cost. On their wedding night, Mr. Le Bail had them play Hide And Seek, which was actually a twisted hunting game where they had to kill Grace before dawn. Besides Alex, Daniel was the only really conflicted one. He pushed through it, even though he didn’t really believe in it. Once they had Grace strapped to the table for the sacrifice, Daniel just couldn’t go through with it. He slipped a little bit of acid in their drink and helped her escape. He gave her enough time to make it to dawn and end his family’s reign of terror.
