M. Night Shyamalan has created many unique and suspenseful films in his career. I’m ashamed to say that it took me a while to really appreciate the worlds he created and so I wanted to make today all about him. Today, I’m sharing my top 5 favorite M. Night Shyamalan films! These are the films of his that I watch and think about the most. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite film directed by M. Night Shyamalan!
5. The Sixth Sense

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A child psychologist starts treating a young boy with a disturbing secret.
Because it’s been so long that I watched this film, I didn’t really expect it to make it on this list. However, after recently rewatching it, I just fell in love with it all over again. It’s creepy, it’s tragic, and the ending is truly unforgettable. The reason it’s last on my list is because even though I love the film, the bullying in it can be a little bit overwhelming to watch. That may be a silly reason, but I can’t help it.
4. Split

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): Three girls are kidnapped by a man with a diagnosed 23 distinct personalities. They must try to escape before the apparent emergence of a frightful new 24th.
This was one of the films that really turned me into an M. Night fan! Undoubtedly, one of the best aspects is James McAvoy’s performance. To be multiple characters with distinguishable personalities is so fascinating. This was also my introduction to Anya Taylor-Joy and it immediately made me a fan of hers. This was a very suspenseful and intriguing film. It may not be completely accurate about some things, but it’s still so interesting and entertaining.
3. Glass

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): Security guard David Dunn (Bruce Willis) uses his supernatural abilities to track Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy), a disturbed man who has twenty-four personalities.
The reason I ranked this film higher than Split is because I just love films where worlds collide! Seeing the characters from Unbreakable and Split unite in this film was so wonderful. We get to see more of James McAvoy’s acting range and Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson return to these roles after over 20 years. Admittedly, the ending almost ruined the film for me the first time I watched it, but as sad as I was, I couldn’t hate this film even if I tried.
2. The Visit

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): Two siblings become increasingly frightened by their grandparents’ disturbing behavior while visiting them on vacation.
As you most likely know, I’m a sucker for found footage horror films and this is one of my favorites. I love the gradual descend of the grandparents’ sanity. The mystery behind their behavior was very interesting, and I have to say that Deanna Dunagan’s performance in this film is one of the most underrated in the entire horror genre! This film is creepy, it’s intense, and it’s absolutely shocking.
1. The Village

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A series of events tests the beliefs of a small isolated countryside village.
This is my all-time favorite M. Night story! I love the small community and I think the vibe had a perfect blend of suspense and peaceful tranquility. This film also has one of my favorite love stories of all time. Even though I knew the ending of the film way before I watched it, it didn’t keep me from falling in love with this tale. It almost made me wish we were living in that community. This one I can throw on anytime and never get bored!
